Male Yorkie with enlarged abdomen.... I gave my Yorkies (2 males) a short haircut for the summer 2 weeks ago...its been a busy few weeks (I just gave birth) and a couple of days ago I noticed he looked like his sides were swollen. I was not sure if he had gained weight, and I didn't notice because his hair was longer, or if I was imagining it. I had my husband look at it, and he said he thought he looked fine. Then today, I tried putting a Yorkie band on him, and it didn't fit over his sides. I picked him up and looked at his belly/penis area and noticed his penis looks big/swollen, like its blown up. I compared it to my other Yorkie male, and it looks alot bigger/swollen. I would say when he is standing, his sides look like they are bulging, like as if he was pregnant, and when I pick him up, his abdomen feels hard. I did notice a couple days in the last few weeks, there was diareah around. Maybe once in a day, every 4 or 5 days. I wasn't sure which dog, I have 5, it came from. And it was only one time, not chronic. Last night, there was liquid diareah on my patio, again I wasn't sure from which dog. My Yorkie is acting fine, he is eating, drinking, playing, running, licking. He has a wet nose, and his tushie looks fine, not enlarged, red or anything. He isn't crying in pain, even when I press on his abdomen. I am taking him to the Vet in the morning, but I was wondering if anyone had any clue as to what this could be. I did call an emeregency vet, and they said if he is acting fine, he should be fine till the mornring, and they didn't think I needed to bring him in. I just won't be able to sleep because of the worry. :-(

Please let us know what the veterinarian has to say. I am a veterinary assistant, and this certainly doesnt sound normal, or good. But he should be fine till morning. If you have a thermometer , you should check his temperature, to make sure he doesnt have a high fever.

Do you think it could be the Pancreas? That is what I read on here, that could be a cause?

If he is still eating and acting normal i would not think its the pancreas, but i would love to know what you find out at the vet

| All you can do is take him to the vet. Honestly, when I've seen cases of abdomens swelling like this, it isn't good... The vet needs to find out the the swelling is. It could be fluid from some source.

The vet said he seems fine. He had no weight gain, no temperature, n she checked his rectum/stools, said she did not feel a mass in his abdomen, and she said it could just be a pot belly, how he carries his weight. She said she couldn't do an x-ray that day bit if I want I can bring him back for an x-ray next week. I am not sure, if I am just imaging it. He hasn't had more diareah, and he is eating and drinking normally.

I took him back to the Vet today, after he had MASSIVE diareah blowout on my kitchen floor....just once, but I just have a bad feeling. They did an X-Ray and said his abdomen is full of fluid. They took fluid from his abdomen, and blood, and are running tests. I am also trying to get a urine sample, but so far no luck. :-( I guess they are looking for Heart, or Liver problems. Does anyone have any advice? Or ideas of something simple that could be causing this? Or is the outlook poor at this point.... :-(
