| I copied the first few ingrediends from their web site : Chicken meal, rice, chicken fat, corn gluten meal, rice flour, dried beet pulp (sugar removed), natural chicken flavor, brown rice, wheat gluten meal Chicken meal as the first ingredient is good, but you don't want anything with corn or any kind of "gluten" meal. I don't like anything by Royal Canin to be honest. white rice isn't nutritionaly great and it's the second ingredient, corn gluten meal is nothing but a "filler" to raise the protien content and not good nutritionaly, rice flour and beet pulp - more fillers, wheat gluten meal - another filler. See the problem? Here's a copy of the ingredients of the food I use, just for an example of what you're looking for (Nature's Variety): Chicken Meal & Brown Rice Medley INGREDIENTS: Chicken Meal, Brown Rice, Barley, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat, Ground Flaxseeds, Montmorillonite Clay, Natural Chicken Flavor, Sun-Cured Alfalfa Meal, Menhaden Fish Meal, Potassium Chloride, Vitamins... Here's ingrendients in one of their grain-free formulas: Chicken Meal Formula INGREDIENTS: Chicken Meal, Tapioca, Chicken Fat, Pumpkinseeds, Menhaden Fish Meal, Sun-Cured Alfalfa Meal, Montmorillonite Clay, Natural Chicken Flavor, Vitamins So, the difference is - the RC has "fillers" in it and the "holistic" brands don't. Whether or not you go with something containing WHOLE grains, or grain-free depends on your dog - if you see big bulky or frequent, really soft poops, try grain-free, if grain-free makes the stool loose, go with something with whole grains. A few other good brands to consider - Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Acana or Orijen, Taste of the Wild - there are more, but those seem to be the most popular.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I know there are many people on here that feed it and like it. Personally, I don't really care for it. Some of the ingredients I am not a fan. Corn, wheat and soy are one of the first things linked to allergies. For example: Corn products such as corn meal are generally added to pet food as fillers so that the product achieves the desired level of heaviness and bulk. However, the digestive system of a dog may be unable to properly digest the product due to the thick and starchy texture of the corn. As a result the dog does not derive any nutritional benefit from the meal. Corn is also rich in carbohydrates and therefore it can interfere with the functioning of the liver and pancreas in sugar regulation. This can contribute to illnesses such as pancreatitis, diabetes, liver disease and obesity in dogs. Aflatocin fungus is present in corn which can be very harmful for dogs. This is why it is advisable for pet owners to opt for corn free dog food. I also feel its overpriced as well for what it is.. I would look at foods Like Orijen, Acana, Nature's Variety, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance..There are some EXCELLENT foods out there! If you do decide to change, I would wait a few weeks until puppy is settled in and then try something new! Good luck! I am sure many here will offer more suggestions

| My boy used to be on this, and as soon as I switched him I noticed a few things: - no or reduced eye goup - less likely to eat his own poop (because he was switched to a grain free food) - I had to feed him less of the better food and saved money (plus the food I switched to was actually cheaper) - He liked the other stuff better - His coat improved substantially, less itchy and dry. I switched to NOW! puppy, now he is on NOW! adult. My local store does not carry the yorkshire NOW! but I'm sure it's just as good as the regular adult one. I think it's just the size of the kibble. I also personally like to supplement kibble with a bit of fish, usually sardines.

| I would caution Natural Balance for puppies, unless you read the labels carefully, they have changed the mixture, and I think there is very little of the things which puppies need, it's fine for adults, but my breeder has had some large problems on the Natural Balance, She said that the one her store was providing her with was for "all life stages" I don't know if other areas can get a puppy specific formula by them or not.

The LID formulas did wonders for Taycie. If you have a dog with a super sensitive stomach there is nothing better when you finally find something that helps her from throwing up or having horrid diaherra.

| Thank you all for your knowledge! I will change it, once she is settled. I eat a lot of organic food myself and take supplements for health. So, it is only fair that I feed the baby good healthy natural food. Thanks Again!! |

| Gizmo was on Royal Canin when I got him, however I we tried a couple of things and have settled on Innova. It what my Cairn eats and I put her on it because she had some skin allergies. Giz loves it, and his coat is beautiful. Plus he doesn't poop so much. On RC he was pooping at least 4 times a day.

| ZoE has been on RC puppy since day 1 & has done great on it. It is pricey though for what little you get. I got a coupon last week for a free small bag of BB, so I'm gonna buy that this week & give it a try. Hope nothing changes for her.
