| Bully Sticks? Okay, what exactly is a Bully Stick? I looked at some where I buy Sugar's TOTW and Wellness food, and apparently 'bully' is not a brand name, since there were several brands all claiming to be bully sticks. I read the ingredients on a few, and it seemed as though these were no different that some of the treats/chews that I've read are BAD for dogs, esp. yorkies. However, since I've read so many comments here about your yorkies enjoying their bully sticks, there must be a product, ingredient or brand name that is safe and good. Please share, because little Sugar Bear would probably really enjoy a good bully chew if her mom can just be certain she's buying the right (safe/healthy) kind. Can we leave one with her to enjoy while we are at work? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | A bully stick is a dried bull's penis. You're right it's not a brand name, although there are several brand names, like Merrick's, etc. There shouldn't be ingredients listed as nothing should be added to the stick, unless it would be a preservative. I buy bully sticks from two different YT members.....AMD with Westbrook and BaxtersMommy. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...available.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...s-ge-sale.html I prefer to supervise my dogs anytime they have a bully stick, although I'm aware of others here that do feel comfortable leaving them while at work. I've had one of my dogs start to gag on a bully stick that had become stringy after being chewed for awhile.

| I give my guys bullysticks occasionally and only when I am there to supervise. I would be scared to death of them choking if I weren't there. I am anal and don't even leave my two with chew toys. They only have each other to play with

| Reading reviews on Amazon, it sounds like some are much more 'odor-free' than others (Brazilian cattle, drained, vertically dried) and the sizes & manufactures vary widely. What size is best for a 5-6 lb dog? How long do they chew them before they get ratty enough to throw away? |

| I'd just watch where you get them from, a few people on here have had their pups get tummy problems from some bully sticks recently- you want to MAKE SURE they're made in the USA. I use the smallest sized ones that Merrick makes - they're about 5 or 6 inches long. Alice is about 5 lbs. and that will last her a week before it gets gross and I toss it (she doesn't chew it for long periods of time though). The regular Merrick ones I use (they come wrapped in celofane) don't smell unless you actually hold it up and sniff it lol.

| We use the 6" sticks. If you are buying ordor-free, make sure it's because they let them dry longer. Some companies soak them in bleach to make them odor free. I've never seen ingredients on a bully stick. |

| The best deals I've found are Bully Sticks - All Natural Dog Treats - Best Bully Stick and I buy the 6" thick odor-free ones... can't smell 'em really at all (unless you put your nose up to them real close!! LOL) and they last us a long time. My 16lb'er takes about 5 days to finish one. He's not an aggressive chewer, I just leave it out for him whenever he pleases to chew on it. Bully sticks are 100% digestible and one of the only bone type treats that Jackson will eat and really love. The other ones we buy are Himalayan chews.
