Can yard be treated for ticks?

I am going to be moving to North Carolina in the fall. We have purchased a house with a great fenced in yard. My boys have always lived on the 3rd floor of a condo so this will be their first time having a place to run free and play. But there are woods nearby and I really HATE ticks. Is there something that I can treat the yard with to keep them away? What is the best flea/tick preventative to use on dogs with sensitive skin who weigh under 10 lbs? I like my vet but I trust the opinion of YT people over anyone else when it comes to my snuggle bunny boys.

Yes you can. There are many different types of treatment you can purchase at the store. Try a local Menards or Lowes for the best selection. Try to get one that also has flea preventive/ treatment in it. I like the once that you hook up to your hose and spray the entire yard.

Thank you!! Spraying my yard with a hose sounds like a plan. Do you use any of that stuff that you put on their skin once a month. I have never had a flea problem before, but I have never had my own yard since I have had these two yorkies. I feel afraid to put anything on them that will make a flea die when it bites them....this can't be good for the dog, can it?

I read somewhere too that ticks hate cedar and some people put cedar wood chips around the perimator of their yard, you'd want it on the outside of your fence if possible though so your Yorkies won't eat it (I know mine would lol). Never tried it myself though.
I use Frontline Plus with great success and I've never had any side effect what so ever. Based on what I've learned, I think it's the safest one on the market. Honestly, I trust it more safety wise than anything that you would spray on the yard, even if it was "pet friendly". JMHO but my dogs constantly have their nose to the ground in the yard and occassionaly eat the grass, at least they're not eating the Frontline and I know for a fact that it's tested for safety on dogs. Anything you put on the grass is going to have chemicals too if it kills the fleas and ticks instead of just repeling them.

Yes, and you should. I am originally from CT and had it professionally exterminated every three months. I am in TX now and noticed ticks 2 months ago. They and fleas can live dormant for years with no food or water. They also have stages and unfortunately eggs are unharmed by poison until they hatch and die.

I dont play around with pests. I have the yard and inside treated and trust me, the store stuff does nothing.

Ticks and fleas are incredibly difficult to manage alone.

I have always done a spray bottle with water and tea tree oil drops, and spray the dogs down with this concoction once a day. Fleas and ticks have stayed away from them, and I know its not some out of control chemical that will upset them. As for the yard we use triazicide, and we keep the dogs in for a full day from whatever part of the yard we spray (front or back)...We live in front of a farm so there are all types of creepy crawlies around, but the view is too gorgeous to care about the extra work. Our dogs like the cows too...

We treat our yard a good 3 times in the warmer months. We get it at Lowes, it hooks up to the hose. It only takes a few minutes to do. It is suppose to kill fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, etc. Your dog can't walk on it for a good 24 hours but after that it is safe for them. We've been doing this every year and so far we have had no flea or tick problems and it helps so much with the mosquitoes.

biospot works good and is safe for dogs once it's dry. it will help with lots of bugs more than just ticks and fleas. i've seen it at petsmart.

Biospot is a dangerous product! Just google Biospot concerns or Biospot reactions and you can read for yourself about all the dogs and cats this chemical has killed or made sick. I know this for a fact - it caused seizures in one of mine when I was using it a few years ago. PLEASE, don't use Biospot around your little ones!!

i have a fenced in yard and have never treated it but i've been lucky and there is no fleas or ticks in my yard. i also use frontline plus on the dogs. none of my dogs have ever had fleas. when i run out of the frontline i will buy advatage. i have heard very good things about it.

Oh my , Bio Spot is bad. I tried it one time many, many years ago on my Lizzie when she was about a year old and it made her so sick I almost lost her. So, please don't use this.
