Default Lucy isn't really eating help

ok so lucy (3 1.2 months old) has been here since saturday.. and is overall doing great.. she has tons of energy.. shes peeing and pooping.. but the problem is shes really not eating..

her first night she ate pretty good.. but since then she really hasnt ate much at all.. she takes a couple of tiny bites and then is done for the day..

tonight i decided to put a little bit of kayro syrup on her food and i took a spoon and gave it to her like that and she ate a little more than ussual.. but i cant do that everyday.. it cant be good for her to have it like that every day, right?

p.s. she is eating the same food the breeder was giving her (natural choice lamb and rice puppy formula)

is this normal? any suggestions?

Thanks!

WHen I first got Teddie (he was 12 weeks) I had to hand feed him for the first week. He barely ate if I didn't get down on his level and pick up a few kibble and let him come to me and get them. I don't think it is bad to do this, I feel it helped me and my little guy bond. Now he eats fine, and I have learned from the pro's here that I can add a wee bit of parmesan cheese on his food if he is being finicky...then he gobbles it up no problems.

Like the cheese you put on pasta...its smelly and they love it.

And yes its very normal for them to stop or just pick at there food for a few days after coming home, cause they are so unsure and a little scared at first....I did what the poster above did as well...My Harley is 7 mos now but when I got him he was only 12 weeks old and just picked at his food so I just hand fed him for a few days until he was comfortable with me and we bonded a lot thru this...Harley is still a very picky eater, a lot of Yorkies are so I just keep kibble down for him 24/7 and I cook boiled chicken and rice once a week and freeze it...and fed him that as well. I also give them a scrambled eggs once a week and every other day or so I offer a spoon full of cottage cheese....just try and make sure she eats a few kibbles every hour or so until she is eating on her own, that way her blood sugar doesn't drop...Good luck hun.

The kind you sprinkle on pasta This doesn't work for my puppy though lol. They all seem to be a little different, Alice won't eat out of her bowl most of the time, I have to use a paper place and if she's really beeing a stinker that day, I kind of spread the food out on the kitchen floor (why on earth she wants it this way I have no clue lol but it works). She also won't eat her food if I walk way, I have to stand there or she'll just follow me and leave the food. If the cheese doen't work, try mixing canned food into the kibble - I do it with my hands so it mixes really well. Also just keep in mind, they don't need to eat very much since they're so small and when young they do better with a few small meals a day.

Buster was a finicky eater when I first got him and would not eat out of a bowl. In the beginning I hand fed him as well. I also got small dishes like the kind you put your soy sauce in for sushi. I put a little kibble in it and a few treats and he ate the treats and then the kibble out of the bowl. I also add scrambled eggs and cottage cheese to his food occasionally. Buster still will act finicky at times and I have found he just likes having company while he is eating.

My little Gidget didn't eat much at first either on her transition to my home. I bribed her with a little bits of cheddar cheese with her food - it worked - she's a cheese-loving girl!

Both mine had a stage like this a puppies.
I would hand feed them, roll the food on floor for them to go catch and make a path to the food bowl.
Eventually, they stopped but it it is really worrisome until they do.
They will eat if hungry if we do not do any thing but I still worried.

I would contact her breeder for help, I would not add various foods because she should be eating her diet. You could try to buy the same brand of food in wet and add a little wet food to her kibble. I also never had problems switching the dog food - she might not like it. Wellness puppy is what I used for Teddy to add to his home cooked food and he loved it and we got it at Petco.

Thanks everyone! i really appreciate all the advice and i spoke with her breeder yesterday and she gave me pretty much the same advice as everyone on here... what ended up working was a little wet food(chicken stew) with the dry food, adding a little warm water mixing it up and hand feeding her. even thou this could be a pain to do for awhile i was happy to see her eat! she didnt eat a whole lot but she ate way more than she was. shes definitely a little princess getting her food hand fed lol

I am very glad she ate better this time. When a new puppy or even a scaed dog come to a new home this is typical . I have had to hand feed for over two weeks before. Most dogs love the wet food, so mixing that with her kibble is a hreat alternative. Ihope she does not get bored with it though. Since she is young i would continue to do that . Anther things that will work if you really have to get her to eat, is cook some boiled chicken, no grease , and either shred it or make small pieces , then mix it in with the wet food. OR try wetting fown her kibble . it is a pain to do all of this, but she is still adjusting to her new home , and is young, like a human baby , we have to try almost anything sometimes to get them to eat. As soon as she becomes more comfortable gradully mix less and less of the canned. You will want her eating kibble again. Eventually.

but onto the food note again.. i think im going to look up some cool homemade dog recipes as well.. thanks again!
