| I also agree that T/D won't cause harm, but there is probably things out there that could be better. I'm kind of in your situation now in that I am feeding L/D for liver disease and it works for my dog...but I have also intended, for a long time, that I would switch to home cooking once my dog was stabilized. My husband doesn't want to get away from what works, but I don't want to be wondering years down the road if I could have done something more. My dog has one retained baby tooth (not removed when he was neutered ). The other one fell out a few months ago. I'm hoping the same happens with this one. I brush daily and I have inquired several times on whether or not my dog needs a dental. Both vets I talked to said his teeth looked good and didn't recommend it at this time. So, I will just keep an eye on him. (And we're there at the vets enough for his other problems that I'm sure they will catch any problem in time). What about a raw bones to help keep the teeth clean? I know many swear by this (your vet will probably not recommend it though!) There are probably a lot of members here that feed raw that can tell you more about this and how to do it right. Maybe do a search for "raw bones". I wish I could do an occasional raw bone, but can't due to Snickers liver disease.

| Thanks everyone for your comments. I think I will go with the vet's recommendation for now. I will see what other foods are available in my area. The problem is I spend half of my time here in Canada and the other half in the US. What is available here is not available there. That is how I got into this mess in the first place. I don't want to be changing her food every 6 months. We fly to Florida, so it is not possible to be bringing 6 months of dog food in the luggage. |
