Itchy and biting-Any suggestions??? I go thru my Yorkie itching (not scratching but biting) about once a month to 6 weeks. It's always in the same area. His tail and either side of his tail. It seems as if something is biting him right then and there because he will almost violently turn across to chew, chew, chew! I have racked my brain and my husband now thinks I am crazy because I have tried just about everything to eliminate the cause. We have tried different foods and settled on Blue Buffalo. Although now he is getting picky! I have tried 4 different types of flea control and settled on Confortis at the recommendation of my Vet. My Groomer explained the last time we were in that he was quite flaky. I thought that is was dry skin. This makes sense because I hardly give him a full blown bath because he suffers within days of a bath. Suffers so much sometimes he ends up on Prednisone for a couple of days. I have tried Tea Tree Oil (spray) not sure if that is helping or not. I have humectant spray for dry skin too. Just when I am sure of the cause he starts itching again. My Vet thought fleas, which I don't see how with all of the flea controls and how religious I am about using it but the description of his biting made the Vet think fleas. I have had him on Confortis for 2 months. He was due on Sat. for Confortis but started itching on Friday. Gave him Confortis and new canned dog food. Is that it, food allergies??? He got picky about the Blue Buffalo dry and canned combo so I switched the canned to Solid Gold Green Cow Tripe. I have tried to make him broth, gravy, etc. as an additive to his food to help give him something healthy but entice him to eat. He loves (so far) the Solid Gold but I am not sure if this is the cause. You would think this would be process of elimination and eventually I would figure it out! We adopted our dog in Nov 2009. I haven't figured it out yet. Any suggestions?

Hmmm do you think maybe he has his anal glands full? My Tommy likes to act in a similar fashion. I took him to the vet and it stopped the problem. He just started it back up a few weeks ago, so I'll be taking him back to get it emptied out very soon.

Have you tried Omega 3s in Salmon oil yet? If the skin is flaky, it might not be an allergic reaction, but his diet just might not have enough fatty acids. .....and Welcome to YT!
