Glucosamine Is anyone giving their (younger) Yorkie glucosamine to help keep from developing pain from arthritis due to patellar luxation? My dog is almost three, but has had problems with her back knees, and I want to look into anything preventive that I can do to keep her from future pain in her joints.

My vet suggested glucosamine and chondroitin. It was called Dasuquin. Of course Sammy didn't like it. So the vet told me I could get the people kind and give him that. It was alot cheaper than Dasuquin too! Ask your vet if they think this would help your pup. Good Luck!!

I would check into supplementing with both glucosamine and chondroitin. I don't think it can really hurt them. There are a lot of good quality dog foods now that have both added to their formulas as well. You might check with your vet but I've also heard that vitamin c helps. If your Yorkie doesn't want to take a supplement you might check into the dog foods and/or dog treats made with both supplements. Good luck, Teresa

I've been giving Sasha Cosequin for maybe 2 1/2 years now (she's also 3). They make some in chewable forms and she takes it like it's a treat. She gets 1/2 chewable a day and I just stick it with her breakfast. At her last check-up, the vet told me she has grade 3 LP in her rear right leg but she has never shown any signs of it bothering her. The current type of Cosequin I'm using doesn't contain chondroitin however so once I finish up this bottle, I'm going to switch her to the type that contains both.
