| Avoderm vs Canidae I am currently feeding my dogs small bites Avoderm. I got a coupon for Canidae ALS, buy a bag and get a bag free. I have heard that this is a really good brand of food. My groomer says my dogs are in great shape but their skin is a little dry. Please give me any advice that you might have. |

| I'm always confused by Avoderm because avacodos are on the list of toxic no-no's for dogs to eat but their food contains them, and is even named after them? lol. It confuses me, but otherwise looks like a decent food. I think Canidae is good. It's manufactured at Diamond Food Plant and some don't like them (they also make Taste of the Wild, etc) but I think Canidae is a very good food. I believe they even have a grain free variety which is nice. I've fed their canned foods before with great results.

| I bought avoderm and am curious to see what people think of it as well... I ended up doing my research AFTER buying because I was sucked in at petsmart by an avoderm rep, and I was frightened to find out avocados were unsafe. However it is only the leaves of the plant that are unsafe and not the actual fruit and the brand makes sure to only use the fruit. I ended up buying the puppy food because the rep pushed me into it saying there was really no difference between their puppy food and small breed puppy food. I went the next day to several other stores to find the small breed puppy food. Once I opened the bag I was kind of disapointed. The food seemed dry to me, I mean I know its dry food, but it was even dryer and harder than my previous food and I thought Avoderm was supposed to be full of good oils for the dogs coat... It was also alot darker in color than advertised. Not to mention the Petco cashier tried selling me an expired bag of the small breed puppy food even after I insisted that I would just go back myself and get a fresh one... She was like "Its not expired see, and pointed at the date which was a month expired..." I paid and left with the expired bag thinking I must have been wrong or thinking it was a different month. After walking to my car and checking the date a thousand times I walked back in and told her it was expired, argued for a minute or two until she finally gave in and said she thought it was January still.... Even if it was, my puppy wouldn't be able to finish an entire bag in 2 weeks. Aggravating. My puppy doesn't like the avoderm, and I don't blame him. Maybe I just had a bad experience or a bad batch but i'm going today to buy some blue buffalo. Sorry for the rant just thought I'd share. |
