| How often do you worm your babies.... I've heard many mixed reviews of how often one needs to worm. Just curious what the norm is and what they really need. Also curious what wormer you use. I use Interceptor in the winter, and I can't remember the name of the summer one, but it covers fleas too. I know with horses there is much mixed review on worming... some people only worm every six months our boarding facility that my mom and I run (well I don't any more) requires every 6-8 weeks. Also I know with horses you have to rotate the product you give them. Thanks

| Why would you need to worm on a regular basis? Wouldn't you just worm if there is something that needs to be wormed - first. And with that I mean - Why give an animal medicine (in-fact - poisons) that may not be necessary? Test first - and if there's a need - then worm!

| Several monthly heartworm meds also prevent hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm. If you use any of those, I suppose you are de-worming on a monthly basis: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-overview.html

| Since Interceptor covers rounds, hooks, and whips, Ellie gets intestinal worm control monthly. I would not give her a separate dewormer if she didn't have a positive fecal. That would all change if I had young kids though. She would be getting her heartworm meds monthly still and then another dewormer every 1-6 months on top of that (heartworm preventatives don't control all types...).

| Mine get heartworm (interceptor) monthly- but otherwise they do not get de-wormed. If I saw a problem and/or they had a positive fecal I would treat them but there is no reason to treat them on a regular basis "just because". If you are overly concerned about it for some reason you could do fecal checks every month or how ever often you like. This way you have piece of mind without giving your pup meds for no reason.

| So I'm starting to see why we rotate the horse ones... they all cover for different worms and are prevention ones. So the Interceptor should be monthly, but nothing else is necessary unless he is tested positive? I just want to make sure I've got this right. I've been giving the Interceptor every 2ish months. Only because I wasn't sure how often I should give, and of course the vet just tells you the most frequent amount so they get all your money.

You don't need another dewomer unless tapeworms are suspected (flea issue or whatever). Some will give extra because they hate the thought of worms. Others wll give extra if they have kids because they can't supervise everything said kids do which may include playing by dog's butt or in its mouth.

| Yeah I guess I'll have to police myself and get back on track. Just gave him one today, so we should be good until next month. And yes they did tell me once a month, someone else was the one giving me conflicting information. Another question, is it possible to order Interceptor online, I know with the horse wormers we only purchase them from certain sources because they are liquid and must be stored at certain temperatures, so certain sources were sketchy. I'm trying to find the most affordable way to purchase the wormer, cause my vet is 30 min away and the one in town charges double the price. So I guess what I'm asking, while it may be available online is it ok/safe to order this type of thing online?
