| Dry coat and skin... Our 5 mos. old yorkie female yorkie seems to have a dry coat and dry skin. We are feeding her Royal Canin, 1/2 cup servings twice per say. We were thinking of adding some Vitamine E to her food and perhaps applying it on her coat....Can someone tell us why she is so dry.. and what we can do to correct this. Also, any feedback on this above brand of food would be appreciated. Thank you |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I personally don't like RC. Many on here feed it with success, but I feel there are better options out there. I would look for a food with no corn/ no soy/ no wheat. These are some of the major contibutors to allergies and this might help eliminating these from her diet. There are many wonderful options out there, Acana, Orijen, The Honest Kitchen, Wellness, Halo, Pinnacle, Natures Variety, Natural Balance..

| My little girl was getting really dry so I just started giving her a little salmon oil in her food, which was helping. I also talked with a breeder that shows her yorkies, they have beautiful coats, she feeds them Solid Gold dog food, I am in the process of switching over to that food, Solid Gold wee bits and also putting in the Solid gold sea meal which is a nutritional supplement and also aids in digestion, it helps them absorb all the nutrients. My little Molly's hair has already started to look better and it has only been a couple of weeks. I love this food for my baby, the ingredients are all natural and its made in the USA, I have done a lot of research on dog food and this one is really great. Also Silky show shampoo and conditioner from Espree is great. I know petco has both Solid gold and espree. Good luck! I hope you can find what she needs. |

| Thank you for your replies. I forgot about Solid Gold . How does this compare to Evo or Blue Buffalo. Also can we use Omega 3 & 6 human vitamins for dogs....I was wondering if a few drops added to her food might be benefical. Last edited by heylids; 02-17-2011 at 08:35 PM. Reason: error |

| Is it a cotton coat because they are dryer than a silk. They are also duller looking doesnt really have shine like a silk coat. If it is the skin is dry you may need to add amino fatty acids suppliment. Alot of people use salmon oil

| Yes, you can give them fish oil capsules. And also vitamin E. My yorkie gets one of each once a day and has a very healthy coat. Also, a aloe and oatmeal shampoo and conditioner for dry itchy skin is perfect for when she gets groomed. I am a dog Groomer, and this is the shampoo i use for dry coats. Hope this helps. I also feed Acana Pacifica |
