Changing Food Hello Everyone ! Lately I have been feeding Mya white rice and chicken and some kibbles. Because about a month ago she had loose stools and diaherra. After her stool became regular, I slowly started putting her kibbles in her food, once i started putting more it seemed her stool became a bit loose. So as of now, I mix a little rice, a little chicken and about 12 kibbles for her meals. The dry food she eats is Blue Buffalo. I want her to go back to just her dog food but I dont want her to have loose stools ALSO, she is having a hard time pooping She always succeeds in pooping but she walks around with her leg up, trying to push it out. I feel so bad maybe its the food? Possibly constipated? Any suggestions? Id greatly appreciate it. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Thanks

Royal Canin has a food specially formulated for yorkies, it has a little oil to it which helps them go easier. I would call the food co you are using & report the issue & give them the batch#, maybe theres something wrong w/it, could be recalled. I have always heard that chicken is bad for small dogs-to much protein causes liver problems. Of coarse they love it & I do give mine a small bite here & there-I guess something to check into. I hope someone can help...

To the OP: Blue Buffalo is a pretty good, but I know they have had some recalls in the past. Nothing huge but a few here and there. Just because one food is good for one dog doesn't mean it will work for yours. Maybe your baby just can't tolerate Blue Buffalo... I would try another brand, just to see. If you're buying at Petsmart, I've heard lots feed Castor & Pollux with food results. They also now sell Wellness. The only kibbles I'd feed right now are probably Orijen or Acana, Go! or Now!, Nature's Variety.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I used Pedigree and have for the past eight yrs./ never had a problem except for a recall about three years ago. I decided to switch them to a so called better food line and not to mention more expensive brand. That was a mistake..they had runny, gooey stool, Never again! After about six months of dealing with that mess I put them back on Pedigree. And they do really well with it. What I would suggest to you when you go through a change do it gradually... Or they will have runny stool and diarrhea. ( I learned that the hard way) You need to add a little of the new food at first to the food they are on and then as the weeks go by add a bit more and more until they are eating 100% of the new food.

Mocha had loose stool when he was on Blue Buffalo. That went away when I switched him to Orijen.

All dogs are different of course. I have a Basset and a Yorkie both on Blue Buffalo (one puppy and one adult formula) and they don't have any problems. I think it's a trial and error thing and finally after trying a few different foods you will find the right one for your dog.
