This is not true. High protein does not cause liver problems at all. However, if you already have a liver comprised dog, it's best to probably stay with a bit lower protein food, but only if the dog has a predisposed problem. Protein will not cause liver problems. That was a myth that was proven wrong. The early research that convinced people of the myth of high protein damaging dog's liver was done on
rats which are omnivores and their digestive system works entirely different than dogs which are carnivores. Rat's bodies are not designed to handle high protein the way dogs are. I am not aware of
any research on dogs that points to high protein damaging dog's liver. I might be mistaken here, but in addition to using rodents, I believe the source of most of the protein was corn gluten, so it was pretty invalid regarding canines and high protein from meat on two fronts.
To the OP: Blue Buffalo is a pretty good, but I know they have had some recalls in the past. Nothing huge but a few here and there. Just because one food is good for one dog doesn't mean it will work for yours. Maybe your baby just can't tolerate Blue Buffalo... I would try another brand, just to see. If you're buying at Petsmart, I've heard lots feed Castor & Pollux with food results. They also now sell Wellness. The only kibbles I'd feed right now are probably Orijen or Acana, Go! or Now!, Nature's Variety.
