| Picky Eater Hi everyone!! I hope everyones new years is going well!!! Does anyone else have a yorkie that is a picky eater? Last week I took our 7 month old Gizmo to the vet because he didnt seen interested in his dry food for a good 3 days. He likes both Wellness Puppy and Royal Canin puppy 33 mini. I gave him some chicken as requested by the vet and he ate it. I brought him in for blood work and everything came back normal. The vet did say he was a little skinny. Hes 3.4 pounds with pretty tall skinny legs. Ive been giving him chicken rice with peas and carrots at night now to try and get him to gain a little weight but he still doesnt seem that interested in his dry food eating maybe 1/4 a cup a day if that. Anyone have a picky eater? If so what do you feed your furbaby? I dont mind cooking for Gizmo since he eats some kibble and he is also on a vitamin but i just want to make sure that giving him the chicken, and rice is good for him. |

| When i got Lexie the breeder had her on the same Royal Canin mini puppy 33 which she LOVED, but after coming here i realized that wasn't the best food i could be feeding, aslo her stools were pretty loose. I first tried Merrick which she didn't like much now i have her on Orijen puppy and she gobbles it right up, the kibbles are a bit big for her since she's still missing a few teeth so i soak them in warm water. I think they sell samples of Orijen too |

| Try mixing the chicken, carrots or peas in with the dry kibble. Warm it up first and mix it up well. You can also try adding some canned food to his kibble; I like the Wellness 99% canned meat; they make beef; lamb, turkey; chicken . . I warm this up too if it's been in the refrigerator. Lucy loves buttered noodles mixed in with her kibble; the occasional cottage cheese, green beans, plain, unseasoned chicken broth and chicken . . .

| Have you tried the royal canin yorkshire terrier puppy mix #29? It says that the formula is made specifically for finicky eaters...I'm not an expert but Teddy seems to be a picky eater too but he loves #29. I haven't tried the other brands members are suggesting, but I'm sure those are great too. Teddy eats 3/4 a cup no problem. Good luck! |

| Sport is picky too My Sport is also very picky and is not super food-motivated. Right now we are on the Royal Canin YT puppy (forget the number) which he used to like but about a month ago he just stopped eating it so I have to think about my next move in terms of kibble. Right now he is on a mix of Stella & Chewy's Super Beef Dinner and Puppy Plate (canned) turkey & sweet potatoes. I give him half a patty of the S&C and I run a little warm water into it to make it moist. I also place a few drops of Grizzly Oil (fish oil supplement for dogs) on top which he seems to love. He normally gobbles at least some of this up right away. On rare occasions he even polishes off the whole bowl! In addition he gets 1/4 can of Puppy Plate per day. I feed everything in the morning and leave it for him with fresh ice water thoughout the day. He usually eats a little when it first goes down, then picks at it throughout the day. Normally I do throw some leftovers away the following morning. If your guy needs to gain weight, have you tried Tomlyn Nutri-Cal Puppy? When Sport was young, I gave him about 2 tsp of this a day (once in the morning and once at night) and he LOVED it. He still loves it actually. I mainly use it as a training treat now or to get him to take pills. He GOBBLES it up and I like knowing he is getting the calories. And I guess it has worked pretty well since he is the correct weight for his age/length. |

| Vinnie was a very picky eater when he was younger. I switched to a raw/homecooked diet (primarily using Nature's Variety frozen medallions but also cooking for him periodically) and it worked quite well. Never had an issue eating again. I've had three yorkies now and many of them seem to be fairly picky dogs. Alex, our most recent addition, was very underweight when we got him. He would not touch the dry food he had been eating at his foster home, but sucked down all the homecooked/raw meat we gave him.

| MY PICKY EATER IS DOWN TO 2.75lbs -HELP! Hello, My little guy (Max) went to the vet about a month ago and he was 3.1lbs. He had lost about a pound and had runny stools. The vet ran test and nothing showed up so they put him on Vet Solutions high-Cal and Hills Prescription A/D (wet food). He initially did really good with the wet food but then stopped eating that. I will say that he hasnt really "lost his appetite" because he will eat dry cereal, apples, carrots, green beans and chicken...basically anything BUT dry dog food. Today I took him to the vet to get his shots and he's now down to 2.7lbs! On top of that, the vet said he peridontal disease which I feel is my fault because I was feeding him wet food, home cooked food, etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Max turned 1 in September and he is the runt. His dad weight about 2.5lbs so I didnt expect him to be very big but I'm really worried about this weight issue and the fact that he wont eat the dry food, which I'm sure is the reason why his teeth are so messed up. Thanks! |
