| Spike has hiccups/gagging help! Hi! Last night my hubby thought that Spike got a piece of plastic or something...anyway he was coughing gagging, gut soon stopped. After this, he has been hiccuping--that is the only way to describe it and occassionally gagging like he might throw up. Now we do not know for sure what he got or even if he got anything--it is a fun game to run when he has something--but after checking nothing was there. I am a respiratory therapist by background, so I know when someone is choking or having trouble breathing--- Spike always sleeps with my hubby and I on our bed, last night after each of these gagging issues, he would stand on my or my hubby's chest and shake. We put him outside numerous times and watched him, when he came in he would go to his pen in the laundry room and lay in his bed??!! So after four times of doing this, I knew he was not in any respiratory distress, nothing was "stuck" in his airway as he was not coughing but his AM he is still doing this thing. I took him to the vet this AM and the vet did not see anything either, and is wondering if his diaphraph is irritated, but he still has these gagging spurts?? Today while watching him, I noticed that when he is sleeping it stops...We are going to watch him today and if it continues we will x-ray tomorrow...any suggestions any similar situations???? |

| Okay, so oddly enough, I think the hiccups have finally stopped. However it seems like he has a sore throat--he is swallowing like it hurts--his head moves and there is a loud swallow noise? What the heck is that??!! I sound like such a crazy Yorkie mommie! |
