| Is it the food? I have switched my little Levi over to Orijen puppy and now my little boy is having some issue with his poop being too firm. He has had two episodes were the poop got stuck halfway hanging out of his rump. I helped to stimulate his anus and gave a tsp of oil to act as a stool softener. We got it out but now his little anal area has edema and redness. What can I do to help with the constipation issues? I don't want to change foods because already in the short period that we've been using Orijen, I can see a huge difference in his activity levels, his smell, and the eye buggers are gone. Please help! Last edited by snh; 12-21-2010 at 02:59 PM. |

| Why don't you try adding about 1 tablespoon of canned pumpkin to his food. That will help with fiber. Make sure you buy a can of pure pumpkin at a store like Whole Foods or similar. You do not want to use pumpkin pie as that has way too much sugar.

| I always add hot water to their kibble and let it get absorbed... this tends to soften the stool... or adding green beans to the diet can help... or canned pumpkin....

| Or you could get shredded coconut...this also adds fiber to the diet. It would help with the constipation issue as well.

| I feel so lost at taking care of my puppy healthwise. I'm a nurse and I know exactly what I would have done for a human in this situation. I feel like I'm in nursing school learning all over again. I'm reading and becoming educated on these matters. I love this little fellow already and want to provide the best care possible. He is my third child now! I'm learning so much from you guys and I truly appreciate. |

| I just thought of another one - sweet potato. You can microwave it or bake it until it is very soft. let it cool and either mash or cube it and just feed as snacks. So you have options! You are going to be a great mom to your furbutt!
