| Why I love greenies I just took my 5 year old Coco to the vet for her regular yearly checkup. I do not brush her teeth - ever. The only times she gets her teeth brushed is when she goes to the groomers every 4-6 weeks. I thought for sure that this time, the vet was going to say that she needs a dental - but instead......... she said - NO - she can probably wait another year. Yay!!! I only give her dry kibble, hardly any treats, and one greenie every night. She loves them. I attribute the greenies to her healthy teeth and gums. So...... although I know that others will say otherwise (because there has been a lot of controversy on these greenies) I, and my Coco love them.

| Congratulations! 5 years of no cleanings is a miracle in the yorkie world.

| Not all yorkies have bad teeth. Tia Maria is 11 and has never had a dental. Each year the vet comments on how clean her teeth are. My (RIP) 6 year old Niko was the same way. My other two (Oliver and Abbi) unfortunately do not have wonderful teeth. . . oh well . . . |

| I like Greenies too. They changed the way they made them several years back and I don't think they pose the same health risks they used to. Mine have never had a problem but I do watch when they have them. I should get better about making sure they have one every night. I really just use them occasionally. I also give them Booda bones which they seem to like a lot more. I have a hard time finding them and usually have to order them, especially in the petite size.

| As you can probably see from my signature - I have 2 yorkies, Coco and Beckham. Although Beckham is still young (only 10 months old), he had to have 11 of his baby teeth extracted (where Coco's all fell out on their own), has a very sensitive tummy, and does not get a greenie. He, too, gets diarreah from them. Well, actually he has never had an entire one yet, he just licks it and plays around with it, not really chewing it like Coco does. So, I choose not to give him one, because he just makes one big green mess. I'm sure that Beckham will probably need a teeth cleaning at his next vet visit.

| Just be careful. Greenies used to be very beloved on here untill reports of dogs dying because of blockages showed up. Dogs have still died from the new formula one was a YTers dog. Also the owner of greenies was on here before and we asked him if the new greenies had caused any blockages and his response was no comment

| To each their own. All chews can cause problems. Greenies used to be particularly bad. Now they are probably even with the other types of chews. They are made by Nutro though, and that is enough for me to avoid them!

| I just avoid anything that has been known to cause dog deaths even if they have created a new formula. It just isn't worth it to me... I'd rather them go in for a dental than eat something that could potentially cause their death

| I won't give greenies either. In addition to what others said, on the package it says not to give to dogs under 5 lbs, which a lot of our yorkies on here are less than that. Plus it sticks to their fur and makes a mess of the carpet or sofa. brushing teeth really isn't that hard. Esp with CET toothpaste, it really works better than all of other brands out there I've tried.

| Oh, and to the OP: Congrats on the dental report! Reminds me of all the years when I took my son to the dentist and there were no cavities!! I remember being SO happy about that. I have a couple of yorkies that can actually go almost 2 years without a dental...the others need them every year. My vet says that not only are small dogs prone to bad teeth because of their tiny mouths, but she says that breeding and genetics also come into play.
