| I wouldn't recommend ANY food from Walmart. Costco offers a brand called Kirklands which is considered decent, and really low priced. But the only kibbles I trust to feed are Orijen, Acana, Go! Endurance, Nature's Variety and Fromm.

| Gatsby's favorite treat is gluten free plain crackers and carrots i will give them to him more or less when he wants. I am guilty of giving him bits of crust and a lick of ice cream but nothing that will really hurt he also likes gluten free toast

It sounds like you are more concerned also with people overfeeding their pets... a Yorkie that has grown beyond the Standard of 7 pounds does not mean that he has been feed improperly. Overfeeding will increase the girth, but will not influence the height or length of a dog... genetics controls that. And, yes, as the breed is more prone than others to develope pancreatitis, most owners are aware and know to watch out with feeding fatty type foods. One of our member's dog got pancreatitis from eating Lamb based dog food. So it's not always people food that can cause harm. We have to watch and learn our individual dogs, and do what find is best for each one. Some can tolerate dairy, some cannot. Others may have food allergies and must be on restricted diets, as are some with medical problems. Some need to be on home-cooked diets, some on prescription diets, and some are allergic to the preservatives or additives found in commercially prepared foods. When feeding any dog anything new, it is important to watch what they do afterwards, to be sure it is not harmful to them, and then always feed in moderation. Too much of a good thing can be bad.

I too, feed Orijen dry kibble... I also give Izzy Frozen Primal Raw nuggets.... For treats I rotate with Welness, Zukes, USA MADE chicken jerky ( all the ones from walmart are made in China) Bully sticks, pieces of chicken, k-9 Granola bites or anyhing else that is natural... If I were you, I would research the dog food out there... Look at the ingreds...Find a few and see where the closest retailer is too you

| Do you have a Petco or Petsmart nearby? They both have better brands than Walmart, especially Petco. Petsmart carries Castor & Pollux which is a pretty good food. |

| YT Addict | Coco gets human food but not anything that's really bad for her. Like if I eat a banana she'll get some. Or if I'm boiling noodles I'll take 1 or 2 out of the pot, let them cool, and give them to her. She also gets cheese, but that is her training treats once in a great while, not just all the time. Granted, Coco's not a Yorkie, but I don't think any dog should get outstanding amounts of human food. Once in a while though, I think is absoultely fine!

You can narrow it down to a few brands, then go to their website and put your zip code into their store locator tool. | |
