| Bad Breath? So my little one (5 months) had ICKY bad breath. Any ideas what could be causing it or if it's normal? |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Tough to say. It could be anything from a piece of food stuck somewhere to an abscess. Or maybe it's normal. My 1-year-old had pretty bad breath as a pup, but I think that was because of the fish oil I was putting in her food. I Googled, and the advice said check to see if the dog's teeth and gums are sensitive. If there's any pain, it could be a sign of a medical issue. If it persists, I'd definitely talk to a vet. If all seems normal, you might try brushing. Get a tube of pet-approved toothpaste from the pet store and start brushing daily. I've been doing that with my 6-year-old his whole life, and he's only needed one cleaning. Even at that, the vet said his teeth were in amazing shape for a 6-year-old Yorkie.

| Probably because of teething. Some pups get bad breath when they are teething. Keep an eye out and make sure that the pup looses all the baby teeth within the next couple of months. Retained baby teeth also cause very bad breath later on, too.

| More than likely bad breath is do to teething. Blood no matter how minute contributes to it. The other thing that might attribute to it is a capped molar.
