				   | Please try the wholistic pet health care products " wholistic digest all plus" or "wholistic Acidophilus" they are both very good for babies with sensitive stomach. "wholistic Acidophilus" really worked for my baby with diarrhea problem.

| YT 2000 Club Member | I/D is both low in fat and protein.. my sheltie is on it for life. He has a fatty blood condition and has been so much better since being on it. I have also used it for my Yorkie mix when he had stomach issues due to using a high fat/protein food and it cured all of his issues. You can also try california natural's grain free dry lamb formula, its what Ive been using for 3 of my dogs its both really low in fat and protien and has agreed with tuckers stomach. GOOD LUCK, i no how tough it can be.

I would not go through costly allergy testing at this point -- there are just so many other reasons for the loose stools at this time, it seems like overkill. I would follow what the vet wanted to do in the first place, that is the prescription dog food -- probably I/D. I would also add a teaspoon of plain pumpkin each feeding. Then no other changes for a while. Just changing dog food can give loose stools. I would not even say to change now to the I/D except for recent Giardia, they usually suggest being on a prescription diet. I am sure that is so the GI system can rest. Prescription diets require little action to digest -- they are pretty much usable food without a lot of extra enzyme work required. Even if the tests are negative, his little GI system has had a major trauma so it is good to give prescription food to let him heal without having to work hard.

				   | I'm fairly new to YT but thought I'd share our story on loose stool in case it helps. ![]() Our boy had loose stools for his whole life (he's 21 months old) until about a month ago. I really know how frustrating it can be. It started about a few days after we brought him home (the day of his first vet visit/puppy shots) with bad diarrhea. He was diagnosed with giardia and treated (I thing with flagyl. It got better for a few days and then he was diagnosed with coccidia and treated for that (I think with panacur but the meds may have been the other way around). The diarrhea got better but he had chronic loose stool for weeks after. We kept having him retested for parasites and nothing else ever showed up. We worked with our vet for months and months thinking it was a food allergy. We tried many diets, including the prescription diet from the vet and bland diet of boiled meat and rice (no chicken) as well as several commercial diets and added a little canned pumpkin as a regular part of his diet- always switched very slowly and stayed on each for a few months at a time. We cut out ALL treats while this was going on. Some diets helped but he still had soft or loose stools. The last diet was Ziwi Peak and he did the best on this. We also tried several supplements and probiotics (slippery elm, jarrow, ect.) and diatomaceous earth as well. Nothing really helped give him consistently firm poop. We finally started working with a holistic vet. We've had him on several probiotics and supplements (including gastrex and okra-pepsin to settle his tummy) and holistic remedies as well. All helped but not 100%. About a month ago, the holistic vet felt he was stable enough to switch him to a raw diet (we went with Primal). We did this gradually like the rest. The day we started the transition to raw he had his first firm poop. He has had only perfect, firm poop ever since. It has been almost a month now and we are phasing out all of the other supplements. He's even allowed a few healthy treats again. I can't believe how great he's doing. I am completely sold on feeding a raw diet and really wish we had just switched sooner. I realize that these results may not be the same for other pups but I thought I'd share our story in case it helps anyone else. I certainly feel for your frustration in trying to help your baby. Good luck! |

				   | I use "Animal Essentials Plant Enzymes & Probiotics" on my puppy and improved the problem of loose stools in couple days. So far so good no side effect. |

				   | Since my original post, I changed his dog food to one that is not chicken based (Lamb), it is lower in protein and fat, and grain free. I am also adding 1/8 teaspoon of "Wholistic Acidophilus" (a probiatic) to his food and within a few weeks of making these changes, we finally have a firm stool. I am not sure if its the low protein/low fat diet or just adding the probiotic. Whatever it is - it worked.

				   | We ended up with a new dogfood that is out on the market. Its made by Dogswell and its called Nutrisca. We went with the Lamb and Chickpea formula but they also have a Chicken and Chickpea one, as well.
