Paris: Always in my ♥ Donating YT Member | Honey for cough? Does anyone know about using honey to sooth a cough? It seems to work for Paris. Pros? Cons? |

| I don't think it's normal for a dog to have a cough unless they have kennel cough which would require antibiotics.

| I would recommend a visit with the vet for a cough.

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | I agree with Britster and megansmomma, it's time for a trip to the vet (unless you've already gone?) I've never heard of a dog coughing without haven't some sort of respiratory infection, like canine influenza or kennel cough. Kennel cough is HIGHLY contagious, so it would be a good idea to keep Paris away from other dogs until the cough has been diagnosed. Treatment varies for respiratory infections in dogs....antibiotics help for some and don't really help in others. And some dogs get better all on their own (in the case of kennel cough)...some, but not all! Some develop into full blown pneumonia, so it's probably best for a vet to be directing treatment. From everything I've read, it's fine for her to have honey....in very small quantities! Don't forget that honey is basically sugar, so you definitely don't want to overdo it or it could create other bigger problems. Whether it will help soothe her cough, I don't know, but it's worth a try!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Honey is not recommended for infants because it can contain spores that cause botulism. I would think the same applies to small dogs. There is a lot of argument about this- some say it's a myth, but some, including the Mayo clinic, do not. If the dog already has a health issue I think I would err on the side of caution here. |
