| Retaining baby teeth I have made an appointment with my vet for tomorrow to have him examined because it seems that he has retained all of his baby teeth - well at least, from what I was able to see, the top ones. He has two rows of teeth. That is probably the reason he has been having stinky breath. He will be 8 months old on the 20th of this month. Being that he is very small (2.5 lbs) what is everyone's experience with their teeth. Will they eventually fall out if I do nothing to try and have them removed now? I can live with the stinky breath because I am real worried about him being put under anesthesia - and I don't like the fact that he will have to be away from us overnight. He is very timid to begin with and am afraid that all the socialization we have done with him in order to boost up his confidence may take a wrong turn. What would you do? or better yet What should I do? |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | It is unlikely he will lose his baby teeth at this point. Not having them removed can lead to tooth decay and also throw off his bite. There isn't any need for him to stay overnight. Has he been neutered? Generally retained teeth are removed at the same time.

| Ally had 13 baby teeth removed last year when she was spayed and Tia had two removed this past Saturday when she was spayed. Ally was 3 lbs and Tia was 4 lbs 2 oz. The vet recommended they be taken out at the same time of their spay so they wouldn't have to be put under more than once because of their size. They do have to come out though. Good luck and hope your baby gets thru it okay! |

| Yep. I agree with the above posters. At that age, its unlikely they will fall out on their own especially since there are so many left. It will likely throw off the bite unless you have them taken care of soon. I would talk to your vet right away.

| Thanks everyone. We will be at the vet's in the morning for an exam and most likely scheduling to have this done. Anything I should be watching out for - or making sure of? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Taycie had 8 baby teeth pulled as well when she was spayed.. the lower right front canine broke as they were extracting it so the vet had to go down and dig the root out... so she had stiches in her mouth as well... I felt SO bad for her but in 24 hours she acted like nothing ever happened! |
