| ALWAYS Double Check Your Dog's Prescriptions Max's blood work came back regarding Phenobarbital. As per the vet, his levels were shockingly low. She explained to me a few days back that she wanted to double his dosage. He was taking 1/4 of 1/4 grain tablet which = 4mg 2x per day. The LSU specialist faxed a prescription to my pharmacy. My partner is the pharmacist there, so obviously we chose this store. After much calculation, it was realized that the new prescription would be giving Max 32mg 2x per day which would = 8x the current prescription!! I emailed the vet my concern and she admitted to having made a mistake and refaxed a new prescription. Max more than likely would have gone into a coma. If I had filled this prescription anywhere else, I would probably have given Max the prescribed dosage. The calculations for this particular med confuse me and I would have trusted my vet. This is not a fly by night vet. This is the specialist. People do make mistakes and I thank God that we caught this error. So please check your dog's prescriptions (and your own).

| Oh, no! So glad the mistake was caught. I always try and double-check all of our meds, but since I'm not familiar with grains, etc, I probably would have trusted the vet. Never again, though. Thanks for the post.
