| ![]() I have been feeding my yorkie Holistic Health Extension for a couple of years now. When we got the new puppy - it was easy - because the Holistic Health Extension is a puppy and adult dog food. The puppy, however, has been having eye gunk and his stool is a little looser than expected. My question, should I try and change over to Royal Canine for Yorkies - will that help with the eye gunk. And is it nutritionally better than the Holistic Health Extension? Thanks for your any input. |

| ![]() Stay away from Royal Canin... it causes eye gook. The week after I switched Harley off Royal Canin eye gook dispeared almost completely, now he only gets it when he's stressed. There is a great thread on here with some wonderful suggested kibbles, it's a sticky at the top of the forum

| ![]() My Yorkie also had problems on Royal Canine. She would have eye goop and itchy skin. Once I switched the eye goop stopped as did the constant scratching. You may want to consider a grain free kibble. Often when a dog has issues with kibble it's because of a grain within the kibble. I'm not familiar with the Holistic your are feeding. It may very well be grain free. As for the runny poop...could this be because you switched his food to the Holistic? If it wasn't introduced gradually (mixed with whatever he was eating) then it will often cause loose stools. There are wonderful threads and stickies on here regarding food with links to internet sites that grade all the high end foods. Be prepared for information overload! ![]() Good luck!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() I've been using RC for several years and Joey's doing fine on it. We switched to another brand and he started getting eye gook, so we switched back and everything's is fine now. Joey never has gas, or vomiting or diarrhea, and his coat his really shinny and his teeth and breath are good, so it really works for him, but it does contain corn, and some dogs are allergic to corn and have itching problems. Your puppy may have eye gunk because of teething too, it's not always related to the food. Here's a good article on eye tearing. Tear Staining: The Causes & Cures

| ![]() Hi: Are you giving your pup bottled water? I found since my dog has been on bottled water he does not have any gook at all around his eyes. |

| ![]() He is teething. I never knew that teething can cause eye gunk. I'll wait and see then because I am very happy with the Holistic Healthcare Extension. |
