| Bad teeth-HELP Louie's adult teeth already have build up! I can't believe it. His canine teeth have a brown tartar on them and he's only 9 months! I have tried brushing him and he will not let me, he bites when I try to, I can't even get my finger in there and then he starts screaming bloody murder. I don't know what to do...his breath smells like rotten fish, it's gross. I constantly give him greenies and bones to chew on, but I don't think they are helping. Should I get his teeth cleaned so soon. I would hate to do that because I know they need to put him under, but I just hate seeing his teeth this way and I'm afraid they'll decay and then he'll have no teeth. Any suggestions on brushing his teeth????

| It may not be tartar My Benni's teeth are like that and he is 19 months old. I had asked the vet about it, cause I noticed it once his adult teeth came in, seems that the BYB that I bought him from had given a too strong antibiotic to him when he ws a pup and it discolored the enamel in his teeth while they were still developing. They look awful, but there is really nothing I can do, I use 8-1 breath tabs (someone here recommended them thanks) and brush them, but there is nothing short of capping his teeth ($$$$$) to change the appearance. |

| I get Princess to brush her teeth first thing in the morning. I do mine, then up on the counter she goes. She's not crazy about it, but I don't open the bedroom door untill the job is done. She lets me brush them, but only so she can get down to play.

| teeth Has the vet checked to make sure there are no retained puppy teeth..especially the caps on the molars..that is the most common cause of rotten fishy breath in a puppy. |

| Awe all our poor babies having to get their teeth brushed.. lol Harley hates it too.. But I've found the only way to get the job done w/o either of us getting gray hair is.. (I promise I'm not hurting him! Trust me.. He'd let me know! He screams like a girl! No offense ladies!hehe as I am one!) I have to hold on to his beard and pull it slightly upward (the upper muzzle) and when I do that he gets all confused and can't figure out why his lips are raising and is all concentrated on that while I start brushing away at his totally open mouth! He helps out a lot by chewing on the brush and I always feel bad for making him do it but it's for his own good! He likes his doggie toothpaste but fears the red toothbrush! He scoots his furry little butt right down the stairs as soon as he sees it! RETREAT! RETREAT!

| Reyna doesn't let me brush her teeth either. I bought the brush, the finger brush, the finger rubber thing....the minute any of them pokes her, she jumps back. So I just put some of the poultry toothpaste (that she loooves) on my finger and massage her teeth and gums....she actually starts to fall asleep! Not sure if we are actually getting any cleaning done...but it sure is cute! |

| how crazy! i've read alot about brushing their teeth. right now (mostly since edgar picks up everything like a vacuum cleaner) i'm training him to open his mouth. i say, "let me see your teeth! AAAAhhhh!" and pull his little mouth open. followed by lots of love and praises. he has gotten to where he'll let me sweep his mouth completely with my finger. next step...toothbrush! i also use the breathmints. sometimes they need a refresher before they kiss you |
