| do we have to neuter? Dinky is 5 months old and weighs under 3 pounds. He is a timid soul. He is not afraid of other dogs, just cautious. He's not aggressive or assertive even. We don't want to neuter him just yet because we think he's really young physcially, emotionally, socially, etc. Also, he has an undescended testicle, so it that does not resolve itself the surgery is more invasive. So I am wondering why I would have him neutered anyway. I appreciate any advice. |

| I would get him neutered (not now of course). Check out this thread :- http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-your-dog.html

| Correct me if I 'm wrong someone but I thought that an undescended testicle has a greater chance of getting cancer? Aside from that, while I think in most cases it makes life a whole lot easier to have them neutered, I also know of many people who believe that it's better not too have this done and if they make sure there are no unwanted pregnancies, I can understand their point of view. |

| I would personally wait a bit longer to have him neutered in hopes his testicle drops. (8-10 months) Also, so that all his retained teeth have a chance to fall out. Here's another good thread for you to read: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...neutering.html

| I have one of my boys like this his got stuck like on his inner thigh, he is not fixed yet but will be. He is 3 and the reason I have not fixed him yet was because he was too small and he use to have bones that would crack a lot and I was worried he was going to have knee problems. I wanted him to fully reach his adult hood, his full weight, full straight in his bones, and change of coat. I gave him vitamins and I don't hear any bones cracking anymore, I'm also not so worry about him going under and I hope by waiting his recovery will be easier on him. If he was mine I would wait at least until 1 1/2 years old and just start working on getting him healthy and strong, unless there is a health issue right now but if not then whats the rush. Good Luck!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i would wait a few more months to see if the testicle is going to drop and to wait for his adult teeth to come in. This way he has time to grow more and if he needs baby teeth pulled it can be done at the same time. I would NOT let a cryptorchid dog go longer then a year before a neuter. It can become cancerous or it can effect other organs. I've seen a softball sized retained testicle removed from a young golden that had wrapped itself around other blood vessels and organs. it was a major operation instead of a simple one that could have been done when he was still a pup

| Dinky This is all great info. I have alread checked out some of the articles. It looks as if waiting for a while will be a good move. I had not thought about the teeth issue. I think it is probably wiser to wait to have it all done at once. |
