| bathing yorkies Hi everyone, I'm completely new to the whole Yorkie thing, so I am learning tons of information from this site! Anyways, how often are you supposed to give your Yorkie a bath? A lot of sites say every week, or every other week. How often do you do that? I know I don't bathe my pug very often...she hates the water, jumps on your shoulders trying to push her way out of the tub, haha. So how about for Yorkies? What kind of shampoo should I use? I have Paw Luxury Intensive Soothing. As I am getting a 6mon. puppy, I am not sure if I should use puppy shampoo, the one for flee and ticks is what I have for puppies, or the other one. Hmm? |

| I wouldn't use a shampoo for fleas and ticks. Yorkies typically have sensitive skin. Biogroom, petsilk, yorkie splash and shine,Iv San Bernard are a few good ones. I bathe my two once a week.

| I bathe mine every two weeks unless they get really dirty or smelly beforehand. I use either Eqyss or Kiehls shampoo and Kiehls conditioner. If I am feeling particularly lazy I just take them in the shower with me

| We bathe both of our puppies weekly. I use a puppy shampoo that has conditioners and silk proteins in it. Really helps condition their coats and skin. Brush you dog before bathing. It helps with preventing matts and tangles. Also, a lesson I learned from bathing my cats, when washing and drying, don't rub. It will promote matts and tangles. I have one kitty that has very fine fur and it will tangle/matt easily if I don't brush her out well before bathing. And also found rubbing, gave her matts. Pat dry or use a cool setting on blow dryer. I also will pat and brush to dry. Last edited by shoefelmeyer; 06-23-2010 at 06:41 AM. |

| I used to bathe once a week...now that we use Yorkie Splash & Shine products from Walnut Hill Yorkies, we only bathe every two weeks because they still smell good! We do comb them out daily using the detangler from the same company.
