| Natura Pet Products acquired by Proctoer and Gamble I thought we found a great food with California Natural. The Natura Company was sold to Purina on Jun 1, 2010. I posted another interesting link below this info. Sorry if this has already been posted. http://www.naturapet.com/news/letter.asp June 1, 2010 Dear Natura Consumer, I am pleased to announce the acquisition of Natura Pet Products by Procter & Gamble was finalized on June 1st. I am delighted to continue as President and Chief Operating Officer for Natura Pet Products, and my management team remains in place. I’m excited about continuing to serve Natura’s customers and their pets with the high-quality, natural nutrition you’ve come to expect. I have heard much speculation about our brands and wanted you to hear directly from me. Be assured that our commitment to quality has never been stronger and we will continue to offer world class products for your pets. Specifically: Natura’s nutritional philosophy will not change; we know that the foundation of our success is rooted in our products and their performance. Our approach to formulation and product design will remain the same, and we will continue to position our formulas on the cutting edge as we evolve and improve our market leading products. Importantly, all Natura dry products will continue to be produced in Natura’s plant in Fremont, and our ingredient selection philosophy is unchanged. We will not compromise our standards. Additionally, our commitment to your local Independent Pet Store continues to be our top priority. We are committed to distributing the Natura brands only within the Pet Specialty channel. This is where the natural pet food-seeking pet parent shops, and where we can provide cutting edge products and nutritional consultation to ensure you get the best products for your pet. Lastly, we remain committed to Natura’s heritage of product innovation. We’ve just launched California Natural Grain-Free, and if you’re looking for a no-grain product with limited ingredients, try this one. California Natural Grain Free carries all of the hallmarks of the Natura brands – quality, careful ingredient selection, produced in our plant in Fremont – with the added benefits of grain-free formulas for those sensitive pets. As always, please contact our Product Advisors with any questions or concerns at 1-800-532-7261 1-800-532-7261 . Thank you for your belief in Natura Pet Products. The future is bright for our brands, and we look forward to serving you and your pets for many years to come. Sincerely, Don Scott President and Chief Operating Officer Natura Pet Products ==================================== FIY this link was also posted when I searched Natura Natura Pet Food False Advertising Class Action Litigation Judy Ko v. Natura Pet Products, Inc. et al. The Allegedly False & Misleading Statements A class action lawsuit has been filed in California, alleging that during the past four years, the Natura Pet Foods corporations sold their cat and dog food by using false and misleading advertisements. The lawsuit alleges that Natura's false and misleading advertisements included such claims as: "We only use ingredients you'd eat yourself..." "All of our human grade dog and coat foods are carefully coked and tested..." "Natura's products use only human grade ingredients." The Alleged Failure To Disclose Use Of "Rendered" Products The lawsuit alleges Natura failed to disclose on its package and labeling that its dog and cat foods contain ingredients from "rendered" products, e.g. chicken meal. Chicken meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone derived from parts of whole carcasses of chicken - exclusive of feathers, heads, fee, or entrails. Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | It will be interesting to see how the lawsuit comes out. It may still be a good food even if it turns out they stretched the truth a little in advertising.

| What about Natural Balance? Don't they also have limited ingredient foods?

| We went to a new vet who said she thinks Cal Nat is a real good food but she prefers home cooking. I was disappointed to see about the rendered chicken parts being used. That seems like deception to me when you check their web site and they are going on about how the food is made from the best ingredients. I am not going to take them off of Cal Nat Lamb and Rice right now unless I hear something bad about it. We have changed too many times in the past. But I will be watching for any other updates on this food. I just wonder if they were deceptive about the chicken, what else might they be hiding. DH thinks that just because it was sold to P&G it might not be a bad thing. We'll see....

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have had mine on CF for years but the canned food. I switched a couple of months ago to the kibble and 2 of mine have gained a lot of weight. Pixie being one of them and with her leg problem I really need to get the weight off her. The pet store where I buy it is ordering me the CN no grains to try. I may switch to Natural Balance. I need to look at the various types. I love the ease of feeding kibble but I can't take the weight gain. Connie switched hers to CN at the same time and 2 of her 3 gained weight too. She has now switched them back to I think Natural Balance.
