Tucker was said to have an overbite, his mouth did look a little off in the picture I saw of him, before buying him. Anyway, when I got him and took him to the vet to get checked out, the vet was like WOW, his bite is so off that she considered it to be like parrot jaw, the lower jaw and teeth are way back and touch his roof of the mouth. I actually asked the vet if his lower jaw couldn't somehow be brought out surgically. Beside the fact I think she thought I was crazy, she said if he can eat, he doesn't need surgery, because the bite is so off, he needs alot of dental care. |

I just heard back from Jean Dodds and she said hypoparathyroid is very rare in dogs and she is very knowledgeable about blood work having studied it for 40 years and she gets blood work from vets and specialists from all over the world to review as a second opinion. If it was common she would probably know. |
How is lymphangiecstagsia diagnosed? Now I am back panicking again. I am actually afraid to look it up. I don't like the idea that the hypoparathyroid is a rare thing. |

Tums are used by ucdavis as a source of calcium in their Welcome to the Balance IT® Web Site diets I think you said protein was low as well correct? Not just calcium? |

I don't think dwerten is saying that she thinks your dog has lymphangiecstasia. |

When you go in take that compost bag with you to show the vet so she can see what was eaten this might help her as well to rule this out as the cause how long after the compost incident did the diarrhea start? I personally think it is more tied to the compost like manolos mom dog |
the compost came from our own compost bin. my hubby mixed a layer of compost in with the regular soil in the raised veggie bed. Obviously not raised high enough for tucker, and tucker bought in a hunk of dirt? compost? I grabbed it right away, but I don't know how much he actually ate. As far as that lymph thing, I only found one site so far, it did say diarrhea and a round belly, and vomitting, he always had a round piglet belly, but never the vomitting. It would be a blessing if all his labs including the calcium are off and low because of the diarrhea and not from an illness. I'm wondering if the 1lb. wt. loss could be from going grain free, don't ya think 1lb. would be alot just from 2 loose bm's a day. I think the loose stool came about 7-10 days after the eating incident. |

did you just recently switch food as diarrhea can be from that as well? 7-10 days could be incubation for fungal infection. Did you bring up to vet about compost? I would converse with manolos mom to see what she noticed with her dog as she went through the fungal issue and her vet diagnosed with lymphangiecstasia at first but the blood work was normal so you can compare incidents. It looks like you have a diet change and compost prior to incident correct? was there anything else? Was your dog ever acting sick before all this any other issues on blood work etc. as dogs that get lymphangiecstasia usually have a long battle with inflammatory bowel disease it does not just pop up out of no where usually. |

he gained alot of wt. since the collapsed trachea issues. he gets carried 1/2 the time of our walks. so he was steady weighing in at 8lbs. I went grain free for almost a year, if not longer. He only had a bout of diarrhea 1x in 7 years, and that was when I was away and my daughter stayed home and watched him, he actually had blood in his stool and she rushed him to the vet, I think he was on pepcid and something else for a week, then it was over, that was 3 years ago. So he either lost 1 lb. in the whole year of the food switch, or he lost 1lb. in 2 weeks? He really didn't have any decrease of appetite since this diarrhea thing, he's always ready for dinner and treats, he's looking at the microwave now!!! He's not resting like a few days ago, he's sitting perfectly alert, waiting for something, gee I hope it's not dementia! |
If it was fungal, I don't think flagyl would have stopped the infection, I think flagyl is for bacteria, I think. then again why did it stop for a day or two, start again, then after the tums completely stop. almost like the low calcium had something to due with producing loose stools. It sounds whacked but that's what it seems. or maybe the flagyl needed time to kill the stuff off and it's just a coincidence that it stopped after the tums. |

Probably loss of weight due to diarrhea is my guess. So he has been on that food a while so you can rule that one out then. The blood in stool when you were out of town was probably colitis as they get stress colitis sometimes if they get stressed when you are gone. This breed tends to have intestinal issues so stress colitis is pretty common too. |
