| I forgot to mention he has a flea allergy. It's nearly impossible to keep fleas off of him. We were thinking about giving him fish oil to help his allergies a little bit. |

![]() also dogs with a weeker immune system such as allergy dogs tend to attract more fleas than a healthy dog. Do you use frontline plus as that is what our derm recommends Last edited by dwerten; 05-29-2010 at 07:43 PM.

| We've used it before. We've tried lots of flea meds, but nothing ever seems to work. We always find fleas on him. |

| have you gone to a dermatologist? The flea meds kill the population but i believe it takes 24-48 hrs to kill the adult flea so they are still biting your dog sadly and why i choose not to do them for mine as our area is not bad but in your area it may be bad and you may be stuck with having to it sounds like. If you boost the immune system with a good diet then it may limit the fleas as fleas tend to go for the dogs with poor immune system. |

| My Westie has horrible seasonal allergies; as well as skin allergies. We control them with OTC Zyrtech; fish oil; grain free diet; cortisoothe shampoo and the occasional shot of steriod when the itching/scratching gets out of control. So far, he has a fine coat; I've seen Westies nearly lose all their hair via severe skin allergies. I do recommend being proactive. My Westie is 15 lbs so the Vet put him on Comfortis ( would not put Lucy on it). I have yet to find a flea on that dog so far and he is outside all the time. If your dog is allergic to flea bites; then you will have to find a way to control the fleas. Last edited by Ringo1; 05-30-2010 at 09:01 PM. Reason: spelling . . . |

Luckily, we seem to have Ringo's under control with the regime I posted above. I did have to give him a Zyrtech yesterday - but that's the first one he's had in a month and he didn't have to have any prednisone at all this spring . . which is good. He'll be ok through summer then have another bad bout when fall first arrives . . that seems to be the way it goes.
