Default Please, I need help with my brand new yorkie pup!

So I got my lil 8 week old baby on Tuesday afternoon and she was playing and running and kissing all day. She started using her bed, puppy pad, and water bowl but showed no interest in her food and wouldn't even sniff it. (Science Diet Puppy Canned Food, which my breeder had been feeding her) I tried to feed her out of my hand and I also tried putting some on the floor in front of her. My breeder told me to pick up Nutri Cal so I did that and she WOULD take that. I figured, ok she's still adjusting I'll let her nerves go down and I'm sure she will eat. She was also vomiting a little bit and her stools were a little loose but I figured again, must be nerves.
Then on Wednesday and Thursday she would eat Nutri Cal and I could sneak in just a tiny tiny amount of her food in while she ate that. Her energy on Thursday was noticeably down and I started to notice her shaking, not wanting to be around us, sleeping most of the day... I figured she must be tired from playing so much the first two days and needed to rest. Luckily I had read all about hypoglycemic reactions because at 6 am that next morning I woke up and her body was sitting up in her bed but her head was laying outside the bed. She had no life to her body and her eyes were rolling into the back of her head and she was shaking I quickly got syrup sugar and water and mixed it up and took a straw and got her to revive! Then I was able to get her to take a little bit of food mixed with water again using the straw. She was much better after that.
Yesterday I got Pedialyte unflavored, a syringe, and some of that activia yoghurt. I think the Nutrical made her sick and that we used too much of it unfortunately, so I am stopping with that at least for now. She was being very good yesterday as we tried to give her between 5 and 10 CC's of a food water mix every 3 hours or so. She even opened her mouth for us at one point. She seemed to be getting a little bit of her energy back and was following us around and being more playful. Then again this morning I found her around 7 not as bad as the first hypoglycemic attack, but again, eyes rolling a bit, and not much life to her. I did the same syrup water sugar mix and then waited a bit and tried to feed her but she pried her mouth shut and absolutely would not take any of the food.
I got the pedialyte and yoghurt because I had read about them here. I also picked up puppy milk but gave her just a little bit and she puked it right up so that's out. I haven't used the yoghurt yet....and she doesn't want to drink the pedialyte she seems to notice it's not water.
She has been pretty good this whole time about drinking water, which is the one thing that seems good to me. I'm just worried about this syringe business. I don't understand why she acts like she's never eaten before? All throughout this I have made tons of things for her just to try to get her to eat something! Scrambled eggs, turkey, chicken, her food mixed with some dry food, ...nothing interests her. I've put a little bit of nutrical or syrup mixed in, still nothing. After this second attack it is obvious to me that she needs to go to the vet. I know I should have taken her before but I just kept htinking this is just a phase, and this is my first puppy so please excuse my ignorance. I honestly didn't know I would encounter all these problems. Any advice y'all might have or suggestions, or stories, me and Stormy would greatly appreciate it. I truly hope that she will keep eating from the syringe and if I keep leaving food out she'll eventually take to it, and maybe I just need to give her a little more than I did yesterday she won't have another hypoglycemic reaction.
Thank you!

Eight weeks is way too young to leave her mother. Yorkies should be 12 weeks old before going to their new home. The risk of hypoglycemia is very high in a puppy this age.

Loose stools and vomiting are also very dangerous in a puppy this young as she can dehydrate very quickly. Dehydration causes an electrolyte imbalance which can cause cardiac arrest. Giardia and Parvo can cause diarrhea and vomiting.

This puppy needs to be seen by a vet ASAP!

Have you tried to soften her food with warm water? If you are trying to feed her kibble the pieces might also be too large for her mouth. You can feed a combination of wet and kibble with water. At 8 weeks she is just learning to eat. She is very young to be away from her momma at only 8 weeks old. How much does she weigh?

I don't have a lot of experience with Nutrical but from what I do understand it should only be used in emergencies. Since it causes the sugars to spike but also makes them drop quickly it begins a cycle of what you are seeing.

Have you tried to put a little Karo syrup in her water? How often are you trying to feed her?

Thanks everybody for your help. We have a vet appointment tomorrow at 2 PM they told me to give her 1/2 a CC of Pepto Bismal twice today. I also spoke with someone who had the same problem with a young small yorkie like mine (mine is only 1 pound). She said meat baby food without onion powder so that is what I am trying. I'm going to keep giving her pedialyte and try this baby food thing and not let her out of my sight until we get in to the vet tomorrow.

Sorry, I don't remember who posted this originally, but I copied it just incase. 1/2 cup half and half
1/2 cup baby rice cereal
1 jar meat baby food, anything but turkey
1 tsp. karo or pancake syrup

Mix together and add a little water if it's too thick for the syringe. Give approximately 2-4 cc's every hour (depending on size), then when the pup is doing better, you can increase the amount and decrease the frequency. After a day or two of this, as long as they are eating this on their own, gradually add softened kibble or canned food and slowly decrease the baby mixture until they are eating the food. Should take a week or so to do the change, to avoid upsetting their tummy. She told me to keep checking her gums, that they should look like a humans, dark pink to red, and her ears should feel warm, not cold at all, . If I saw gray in her gums, I was to feed immediately and if no improvement in 1/2 hour, to get her to the vet again. And I was told also to keep her warm, so we took turns holding her against our bodies.

This was posted by Lunas Mom and I used it when we first got Hot Rod. He was 15 weeks at 1.57 lbs. and a very picky eater. You may want to try this and just because of the amount you give your little one as it is very filling. Best of luck.

It sounds as though you've done a lot of research and are doing your best for your little one. 1 lb is tiny, I thought I was going to break Hot Rod when we first got him, I can can't imagine 1 lb. Please let us know how your vet visit goes.

I think the problem just may simply be that she was way to young to be taken away from mommy..at 8 week they are just getting to know how to eat, and some still are not completely weened at 8 weeks. You say she acts like she has never eaten before..well...maybe she really never did..it is possible that at 8 weeks she was still relying on mommy for food..So I would contact the breeder and tell her what is happening, and call your vet as well..I know the vet's around here sell special food, for dogs that wont eat, it has something in it to increase their appetite, and I guess they almost can not resist it, I thing it is called A/D or something.

Unfortunately many "breeders" will sell pups at 8 weeks which is too young. Luckily you knew to have Nutrical and Pedialyte. When Bandit was sick when we first got him (11 weeks) the vet syringe fed him Science Diet I'm not sure which version which really helped him.

Please keep us updated and let us know what the vet says. Good luck with your little one!

I had to put my poor baby to sleep at 5 this morning... she had distemper. The dog went straight from the "breeder" to my house (and i had no other animals here). She supposedly gave her the vaccinations for Vanguard 5 and worms right before I left. Something didn't feel right about the woman I bought the dog from but I loved the puppy so much I wanted to give her a good home.

We had originally gone to see the puppy on Friday and she had told us the puppy needed another week or two before she could come home. Suddenly on Monday she calls and tells us, "come get the dog. she's ready" and acts annoyed that we can't come until Tuesday to pick her up. The sad thing is she breeds several types of dogs and also runs a kennel so who knows how many dogs are at her house.

The fact that she wanted the dog out NOW and her weird behavior....all makes me feel sick like why didn't I put two and two together? Also she let it be known at the last minute that she hadn't bred the dog but had gotten it from a friend of hers but decided to sell her when she figured she would be too small to breed. I think this poor baby was taken too early from her mom to start with! I called to report the situation, I pray someone really listens and goes out to check the situation. Who knows how many dogs could be infected?! I was told I couldn't get any sort of monetary refund, which I am fully aware of and didn't want compensation anyways, I let them know I just really really want someone out there ASAP so more dogs don't have to die. My poor baby truly suffered. I didn't even get to say goodbye because she was having constant seizures in the back table at the emergency vet. Luckily during the very short time I had her, I loved her with all my heart. I appreciate y'all being so helpful. I wish I had known more about this breed, and about this website in particular before I purchased the dog. When my heart heels I plan to get another, I love this breed so much now after knowing my baby doggie. This time I will make sure she is 12 weeks and I will go with a reputable breeder.

What a heartbreaking story. I am so sorry.

How old was the puppy when you got her? Puppies shouldn't start their vaccinations until they are 9-10 weeks old. If they get them too early, maternal antibodies they got from nursing attack the viruses in the vaccine so they are worthless.

the lil baby was only 8 weeks old, if I had known what I know now, I never would have bought her at such an age. Unfortunately I did not know that especially with such a small breed, they shouldn't leave their moms so early. If anything, I got to love her, and had a learning experience and now I know more about what I can do for my next lil one. I'm sad she had to suffer and that this had to happen with my very first puppy I could call my own. At least I was at the vet and they could euthanize her. If I hadn't seen how bad she was at 4 in the morning, I would have had a puppy seizuring uncontrollably in front of me and wouldn't have been able to help her suffering.

I am so sorry your heart is breaking. I hope someone does something about this greeder. How would she know a dog would be a good representation of the breed before 8 weeks old? How would she know she wasn't going to grow enough either? That just doesn't sound right.
People like this make me so angry! They put the dogs through so much, and they put unsuspecting loving people through hell as well. Sending you hugs, and when you're ready to try again with a new baby, we'll be right here to guide you around so you don't end up at a "breeder" like that again.
