The FDA has approved several permethrin-based products for use on dogs, including sprays and spot-on's. Some dogs have been known to exhibit side effects ranging from skin redness and irritation to drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy or seizures. In the case of severe symptoms, call your vet immediately. Skin irritation can be relieved by bathing your dog to remove the substance, but you should still consult your veterinarian. Permethrin shouldn't be used on young puppies (under 12 weeks), pregnant or nursing dogs, sick dogs, or dogs with kidney, liver or heart disease. It should never be used in conjunction with flea or tick collars or other flea/tick sprays. If you are only using Permethrin mainly to protect against fleas and ticks, there are alternatives which carry far less risk of side effects. Ask your veterinarian. permethrin insecticides for mosquitos, ticks, flies, chiggers, bedbugs | |

| I use Frontline Plus, only when I see a flea on one of them. I haven't had to use it for 3 months now, but flea season is coming up...they just hitch a ride on them when we're out. I wanted to attend the meet up, esp on Sat (vendors), but I can't get off work that weekend.

| Tks for all the good info re H/W and the different meds for fleas, ticks and h/w. Being in FL I have to med year round. LUVFLA's pup had h/w last fall and it's a hard treatment if not caught early. I use Heartgard and Comfortis for the younger 3 (3,4,5 yrs) and Sentinal for the older (15) guy. The rescue group in OH used Rev but it is a topical and the old boy has been frisky and plays with the younger ones .
