My Morkie Won't Eat Dry Food

Try mixing a small amount of hot water in it and then shake it around. I think it makes the smells come out and mine love it. I had a hard time finding a good food too. I started feeding twice a day and now they eat every bit.

thank you so much, she loves the chicken and my vet said that the chicken is not good for her. I tried the yogurt thing and she ate a little. But she loves the chicken. I am going to try the dental spray too, i didn't know they made that. Will go to the store and get stuff for her teeth. Just worried because she only poops a little bit now, just one little one in the am. I get so stressed out and worried about her and her stomach keeps making little noises but she's very active and running all over the place. thanks for the advice and the help, I really appreciate it.

Normally you can just wait and they will eat because dogs won't starve themselves (for the most part), but because she is only seven months and not doing well like this, I wouldn't use that strategy.

If the yogurt and chicken doesn't work, how about sweet potato?

You could try changing kibble once or twice. Of course it could make her even pickier, but dogs do have some preferences and it may be okay to try a different food.

Also, while very controversial, you can feed entirely canned food if you want to. Whatever you feed, her teeth should be brushed.

she was doing so well on the Royal Canin, I can't believe their pickyness, it reminds me of myself when I was younger. I tried Solid Gold and she liked that for about 4 days but now she just smells it and looks the other way. thanks for the advice, I am going to try your suggestions.

Yorkies are notorious for their picky eating habits! Have you considered switching to a higher quality food. Two foods that have worked well for us were Wellness and Acana. Acana (we rotate between prairie and grasslands) has been great for Bandit who has frequent diarrhea and throwing up, and only one bout of that since we switched in OCTOBER...woohoo!!

Thanks, I never thought of using hot water. I will try that because it just seems like my Minnie is getting skinnier. Do you use Nutra Cal? My vet said it's a must but she doesn't like it anymore. I try sneaking it with a little piece of chicken. Thanks for all your help.

DITTO!!! Ava (6 mos) was eating her Wellness wet mixed with Innova, and then suddenly, one day, was not interested in her food, esp. the dry! So, I went to buy a different kibble, settling on Wellness Puppy-- it's strange, because she used to be eager beaver to eat, and now I have to coax her and ask her nicely to "eat her dinner" over and over!!! She won't even finish it.

So, maybe I am feeding her too much?

I have a Morkie as well and I have fed him Merrick's - all the flavours. It's an excellent product.

I think he has tired of that and I now have him on "Holistic Blend" - it is available here in Canada - not sure about the States. He loves it! They are small pieces of kibble, easy for him to eat.

I also learned on this board to put his food on a shallow dish so that it is easier for them to eat! This really does work. My little guy is eating more regularly now.

my pup had the same problem, she always watches me eat so one day i was pretending to eat her food and dropped it on the floor and she quickly ate it thinking it was a treat, ever since then shes been only eating her dry food
