| Anyone ever heard of swimmers legs? My Valentine was diagnosed with swimmers leg (I'm glad I didn't damage him when he was born). I've never heard of it till today, there is alot of information about it on the net, but it always seems to be the front legs (he has the back leg). Vet said he has a 60-70% chance of a good recovery. I'm happy about that, but I am still not sure this is the correct diagnosis. I'll wait till he is a little older and bigger and take him to another vet to be sure. Right now I am just glad he is doing well.

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | Quote: I read about swimmer pups in a medical book I have, but I have never seen it - I thought it mostly affected larger breeds of dogs. Learn something new every day. Here are a few links: Lab Blog: 'Swimmer' Puppy Syndrome The Swimming Puppy Syndrome and at bottom of page: Spinal, Nerve, Muscle Conditions- Water or "Walrus" puppy and Swimmer puppy Information for the Bulldog

YT 500 Club Member | Hi, my little girl Hope [ now sadley gone over the rainbow bridge] was born with swimmers legs, her back ones too. Its not anything you've done so dont worry as its something I too felt guilty about. She lived a very full almost 12 years before we lost her to an unrelated problem. Though she did develope arthritus later in life but so do many dogs without it. Hope was a fiesty little madam of 3.5lb. who was despretly loved and spoilt rotten by all who knew her even my younger' doesn't like small dogs'' sister, lol. |

| I've heard about it too. How old is your pup? I know people recommend using the foam egg crates in the whelping box with swimmer pups but not sure how old yours baby is? I know that many people have had success getting past this. I wish you luck, that must be worrisome! |
