| Veggies, are they safe? I have seen where some people feed their Yorkies veggie's. I have been told by the Vet and my breeder NOT to feed my Yorkie any table food at all. Is veggies safe for Yorkies? Fresh, frozen, canned does it matter?

| As far as I know veggies are safe for the little ones. I feed Pepper carrots, peas and beans. Raw or cooked, even frozen - he's loves them!

| I have a Jack Russell also and he loves veggies. We have to run him out of the garden. He will eat the squash that we throw out beacuse they are too big. He will eat the center out of them.

| I always use fresh or frozen. They love green beans. I also like to put fresh fruit (blueberries, banana) in a dehydrator and give them those for treats.

| Do you season the veggies? Or just right out of the bag (frozen)?

| I usually cook Mollys a little bit in the microwave and mix with her kibble...peppers, green beans, peas and carrots.

| Veggies are fine. Some are better than others. Just make sure you're familiar with the dangerous foods list first. Cooking them (and some say pulverizing them instead) increases digestibility. I don't think it's a good idea to give too many raw veggies. Canned are often full of salt which isn't okay. I use the canned green beans with no salt added; fresh, cooked carrots; cooked spaghetti and butternut squash, etc.

| Oh yeah, veggies are great for dogs. My Jack Russel had a very sensitive stomach and she was able to only keep down one kind of kibble. So we would cook for her a few times a week. Broccoli, spinach, carrots, green beans, apple, pears, berries, legumes, a little brown rice, even celery. We just found that we had to cook them down with her so she could digest better. She was a rescue we had for 14 years, and she was close to 4 when we got her, so she lived a long time. Not saying she lived so long just because we cooked for her, but I'm sure it helped. We have started adding cooked fruit, meat and veggies to Dexter's diet and I swear that it makes the world of a difference. If you are feeding a premium kibble maybe not as much but I just don't trust most of them. We never seasoned but would use beef/chicken stock if we were making soup and freeze the leftovers and use it later. The big two that you need to stay away from is garlic and onions. I'm sure there are more on the toxic food list, but my vet told me to stay far away from those two specifically. |

| Oh and we also fed scrambled eggs. Depending on weight, 1 should be plenty. Too much and they get HORRIBLE gas! And I do mean horrible, as in you would kill for a gas mask |

| When mine were puppies and teething, I gave them crispy baby carrots - not too many. Teething puppies like them. Mine only likes steamed carrots now. Of course, I've got her eating green beans again now. She went thru a phase where she wouldn't eat them. I add a few veggies to her food occasionally.

| Just a thought, that when using fresh green beans they need to be cooked because they have a wax susbtance on them and this can be harmful to your pet. I read that somewhere and have never given fresh green beans to Buddy without cooking them first. Just wanted to share that bit. |
