Gasping for air while sleeping Hi. I pet sit for this adorable yorkie named Patch and his Mommy was worried because over the last week, she has notice that he will be sleeping and suddenly wake up gasping for air. How worried should she be? She said it doesn't happen every night but has happened several times lately??? Thank you for caring in advance

Is he over weight? Could be allergies, could be Treacha Collapse, could be something else??? Maybe going to the Vet would be a good idea

Thanks...I already told her to call the vet, but I knew those of you who own yorkies would have good advice if you had expierence this before with any of your pets. I do NOT think he is over weight. He picks at his food...rathers to be hand fed if someone will take the time to do it. LOL. I never thought of his Treacha being a problem!

The problem I have is that it is happening while he is in a resting position. When he starts to honk, you need to gentle rub his troat to get him to stop honking. Talk softly to him (it's ok, it's ok)... There is also honking that is "reverse sneeze" - but like I said, if he is doing the honking while in a resting position, then you need to get him to stop doing it at that moment...
