| Chip got a rabies shot for ferrets Chip has severe vaccine reactions and it's time to get their licenses update. I tried to just get the vet to write a letter saying that he can't medically have them, but she said she wanted to try one more thing first. She explained that several dogs that have vaccine reactions have not reacted to the rabies shot meant for ferrets. She told me he would be just as protected and it would still last for three years. She suggested we get some children's benadryl and give it to him 30 minutes before the shot and she said she'd keep him for an hour to make sure he wasn't going to react. After some thought, I went ahead and did it and he did PERFECT. He's a little sleepy now, but other than that, he's completely fine.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Wow, that's interesting! I'm glad Chip's doing well! I wonder if it's just a smaller dose or a different type of rabies vaccination? I like the idea if its a smaller dose.

| The vet said that the one for ferrets is made by another company so she thinks that might be the reason. Maybe it has different ingredients but she told me he'd be just as protected with this.
