| Wellness canned for dog with MVD Lucy has mild MVD and is not symptomatic. I do not feed her a prescription food but do feed her a lower protein Wellness dry. Her vet really thinks she needs more protein than the Wellness offers (she's a puppy). Evenings I have been adding a teaspoon of Wellness canned Salmon to get her to eat and she really enjoys it - with no ill effects. I'm wondering if I could also consider using some of their canned Lamb to add to her kibble? I know she cannot have beef, liver, etc - but was not sure about the Lamb. If anyone has any thoughts on this - please share. Thanks! |

| There are no store brands that are low in protein, unless it is a Veggie Protein blend, so the Wellness is fine. You have convert the dry matter protein percent to wet matter anyway to get the actual protein percent you can add low fat low sodium cottage cheese, or goat cheese or low fat yogurt. Or you can also get Jarrows Goat Milk Powder to add for extra protein. |

| From my knowledge, even if you feed a puppy a super low amount of protein (the prescription Royal Canin LS 14 which has 14% protein) it will not hurt the puppy and he/she will grow fine. My Ginger has been on it since she was around 11 weeks old and has grown steadily and eats really well.

| Thanks for all your responses. Right now, she's on Wellness limited which has 20% protein and not a lot of meat protein (which is why it got bad reviews but good for us). Her vet is convinced she needs protein and will NOT give me the rx food - but she seems to be doing well with what she's on. I'm going to let her try the lamb when the salmon is gone and hope for the best. So far so good . . . . . |
