| New to YT with questions about vaccines... Greetings! I am a first time ever dog owner! Biscuit is 12 weeks old and weights about 2.5 lbs. I took her for a first time check up last week and the doctor recommended Bordatella and drontal plus vaccines. I am a little nervous about vaccinations. She is so little! Besides the parvo booster shot, is there any recommendations on what vaccines are necessary and which ones are not??? Any bad experiences? Thanks in advance, TJ |

| Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk. At the top of the "Health and Diet" section, there is a sticky titled, "VACCINES - An Overview". It gives general guidelines. I never give my yorkies the lepto vaccine, because it has been known to cause problems, and depending on where you live, your dog is at low risk. It is usually included in the Distemper vaccine, so I make sure my vet knows to give them "Distemper without Lepto". (He has to order it). Also, check out some of the links at the bottom of that page. There are some expert opinions that are very interesting.

| no corona either and do the vaccinations separately that way you know if one causes a reaction. Also wait 1/2 hr to hr after vaccine so if she does have a reaction you can be at vets for a dexamothesone shot |

| I followed what was suggested on this website, I didnt allow more then 1 shot per visit, I ended up having to pay for extra visits at the vet because of this but I am so happy that I did this, Laci never had a reaction to any of her shots!! NO lepto... I frequent the dog park so I did have to get the bortdella(sp) nasal ..

| Thank you all so much for the information!! I will speak to the dr. about giving Biscuit single dose vaccinations. I am currently reading everything available on vaccines in YT forums... I'm just flabbergasted that vets will give tiny breeds the same vaccine protocol given to larger ones! Blows my mind!! |

| Large and small dogs are dosed the same with vaccines because it takes a certain amount to get an immune response. This amount is the same no matter the size of the dog.
