Default Molly's sick

I brought her home from Wa. State after being gone for almost a month.. The 2nd day we were home she threw up all day long. After 3 trips to the vet he called and said she has Pancreatitis...Poor little thing has been so sick! I was afraid I was going to lose her. This just came out of nowhere... Now I'm going to have to rethink about her food.. I could use all the help I can get... Anyone else with the same problem?
Thanks in advance

Yes, I just joined and will give any info I have. After 10-12k over 2+ years I think there were short cuts if I had known and with less pain to my little one who has had this all this time. She is on a home diet and managed with several meds. #1 MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD VET! I can give you all info my little Poohbear is on. Will help in any way. God Bless. Oh keep pain meds going on regular time period. This is very painful and if she is like mine hides it very well even on exam.

Default gigi for Molly, Poohbear has had this for 2 1/2 years

We will help in any way we can. #1 Make sure you have a good vet....Then she needs pain meds on regular basis as they hide the pain. (depending n severity of her attack) Numbers on her test will tell how bad it is. Sometimes it is a 1 time thing.. No grease.. We do home food, barley lean pork and vitamins, not treats or around where she can clean scraps off floor. Keep in touch if you need help. Gigi Ps. learning how to do this so hope this finds you soon. Can't figure how to find the fast way to send to you. My email I can give or you give yours if you want,

Thanks so much for the replies...
She is doing a bit better after going to the vets5 days in a row and getting IV's and shots. Today we got to try water and a little bit of food. So far so good.
I'll post up dates.

is she throwing up or diarrhea? If not rest her tummy for 12 hrs - how much does she weigh? Is she drinking as that is most critical - how old is she?

Get some hill's ultra z/d food as i prefer that to hill's i/d and see if she will eat that up after a 12hr rest though unless she is a tiny and goes hypoglycemic - how long have you been feeding the i/d

I did not get Molly's diagnosis. If it is Pancreatitis and or IBS they can run a little blood test in house and if positive send out to see how severe she is. There are several meds. My little one has both panc . and IBS, to varying degrees. She has been controlled periodically for over 2 years.....At one time she was anorexic and not eating. For this problem They usually feed nothing by mouth and keep them on fluids and pain meds and if needed something for nausea, something for nutrition. But it is all through their little portal... Once she was in the vets for 2 weeks.,nothing by mouth... I worried so and she came home gaining 1 pound... If not severe, can do small meal and hydrate her. The secret seems to be find out what foods they can tolerate... they find and pick something they have not had before. We went to CA School for vets, (US DAVIS) for a diet for her.. I wont bother you with the price. But if you want the recipe I can give it to you... Primary ingredients is pork (LEAN) roasted and barley and other stuff. It works pretty good for her most of the time... Grease, oils are her enemy.... We don't even let recipe in the kitchen for fear something may have fallen on the floor. Small meals and plenty of water...If not hydrating at the vets then I do syringe with 2-3 mils several times a day. Careful, they strangle when not used to it. Stool is usually slimy and sometimes orange and yellow. If really bad attack then loose or diarrhea and perhaps nausea and vomiting. No food for 3 days is good if the weight is good and health is good. Good vet a must and one familiar with this illness. I have been told it is common in yorkies... This is my 1st yorkie and also.....This one is what has been called similar to a cat with panc. smoldering...not like most dogs...dogs are usually full blown severe attacks and many times only 1 time. once you get the food taken care of you will know more with what you are dealing with. We also wasted time and pain with pooh with pred and other meds. She has been more controlled with a compound that is like pred but does not bring on problems with her internal organs... It is budesonide. Someone had a list of places that do the compounds...Think I save it, for CA. prayers for you both. Just so bad when they are ill and you cannot think of anything to do. I hope some of this helps and if not and I can share anything else let me know... I know there are people out there with more knowledge than me...I am new & I am so impressed with the people on this site. Many times I am sure you can skip the vet with all the talent out there.... I could have saved a lot of money and pain for my little one had I found you folks sooner. Take care and God bless.
Almost forgot, pain is shown with trembling, shaking and whining sometimes. Poohbear is on Tramadol and works great for her.

I just got off the phone with vet. The names of the foods are Purina-HA and
Royal Canine-HP. They are processed somehow to go thru and not get them all in pain and flare up...These are both dry foods that need to be ordered by the vet. Here it is 6# for $23.43 and 38# for $94.50. I forgot to write down if both were same price. I tried Poohbear on hills p/d and some of the other canned specialty diets for pancreatitis and IBD. She stayed at the vets a few days each time we tried to get her on anything else... I ordered some of this today , to try to get POOH on this so I don't have to prepare her food. The vet warned me to put only 2 or 3 little pieces in her regular food each night and continue until I had her switched after 2 weeks from now. Is Molly any better tonight.??? This is so painful for them and they hide it so well. When you hear those sounds in her gut, without a stethoscope, you know they are in pain. I just keep her pain meds going and if she doesn't eat, I know it is nausea. The regular pepsid , i/4 tab will help that. Pooh cries to get out to eat grass and of course that makes it worse. I hope this will help and she begins to get everything calmed down. How much does she weigh. Pooh is 7#, but at one time she was down to 6#. We almost lost her. It is a long road but she will come around once you get the stomach calmed down and the right food. Stress also makes it worse... Like going for drives. Taking her into stores etc...Even playing with other dogs or cats.. She may like it but it does cause stress. Quiet and rest is the best thing until she gets her system back to normal... It does take a lot out of them. Take care and God Bless. Jessie and Poohbear
