I am sorry but mating is a sexual thing. Mating of dogs is basically two dogs having sex. Sex is a beautiful thing, it is a gift. Animals are not hung up about it, only some humans are. Animals feel no shame about sex, they feel no shame about nudity, they feel no shame about touching any part of their bodies. Their body fluids are not gross to them. Children feel no shame about their nudity nor touching their bodies. Adults teach them to feel shame and society teaches them to feel shame. Sex is a gift not only for reproduction but to also give us pleasure.
Sex and mating is not ewwwww!!!, it is not a job to be done. It is a gift to give us pleasure and new life. It is perhaps one of the few miracles that we can experience in this life.
I do not appreciate my dog humping my leg, if he did I would make him stop but if my furkids want to hump each other or their stuffed toys, I really do not care and if I thought about it, who am I to tell them that it is wrong.
I taught my children from the time they were young that sex was a beautiful and natural part of life. I am sorry for people that find it shameful or are hung up about it.
Our dogs try very hard to fit into the human world but they are still dogs. They will lick and they will hump. It is a normal and natural part of doggy life. Sex is not funny, however watching a poor little doggy taking out his sexual frustrations on an inanimate object is kind of humorous. We laugh because of their innocence and their lack of inhibitions.
And by the way, my daughter is an OBGYN, doctors are just people, they think and laugh about things just the same as anyone else (and you wouldn't believe some of the things I have heard her say about what happens at work).

Luckily dex is a squatter not a leg lifter and he does not do any marking -whew but what is funny is when we go on a walk he lifts his leg like he has to show his manhood or something lollll

awwww - No one riduculed anyone.....If anyone asks a question & we laugh....we're laughing WITH you not at you

I want to reply to the Doctor Comment. No offense but Doctors DO Laugh and discuss their patients (My SIL is an O.R. Nurse).... I hear stories all the time....They're trained to keep a straight face - but we're on a dog site not in the operating room. There's times to be serious and times that humor is a bonus - this thread was full of 'bonuses' besides - some of the same people who asked REAL questions were laughing too - what's the harm in that ?

like someone said - Doctors ARE human.....My SIL tells me there are so many that consider themselves God Like - but her favorites are the ones who are able to laugh - there's always lines that shouldn't be crossed -

I remember a doctor joking about things I said after my only car accident years ago - I guess I was joking while mildly under and don't really remember anything I said - and he WAS making fun of me but but I loved it - It was a pretty bad accident and he lightened it up by sharing the stupid stuff I said. Like wanting to see his Drivers License because he was very young and VERY cute

JeanieK, I'm sure some people don't want male dogs because of humping. Has it occurred to you that many other people want female yorkies because yorkies are more "girly", they want a dog they can dress up, potentially breed, etc? The whole contention that you have to sell your male dogs for less money because of a nefarious group of pro-humpers deceiving the population at large, it does seem like a hang up.

Personally, I would not allow Thor to hump or enjoy himself in his special way in front of company. OTOH, it's not like I have him poop or pee in front of other people either, and it's not that I think bathroom habits are "bad", just that they are experiences other people probably don't want to share with my dog.

As I stated before, I don't really care about humping, but it does kind of gross me out that he's licking his crotch and then licking me. So if I can figure out a reasonable way to stop it, for instance, by cutting off his pee string, I will. I'm just glad other people can share some humor about the sittchyashun!

As for the PM card, I thought it was relevant here because there are people out there wanting serious answers, but were not wanting to post on here because of the way it was being handled.

If wanting a "girly dog" were the case they would say that, they tell me they don't want boys because they hump everything. They have the bad rep because people do not realizer that is can be stopped if corrected.

Then there is a thread like this where we are being told it is natural, they do it for pleasure you have to let them do it........

Well the dig holes and chew furniture for pleasure too but I don't let them do that either.

People come looking for advice and the topic is turned into a joke.

I'm just trying to educate, they ask a serious question, they deserve a serious answer.

lol that is funny -yeah i probably did - the anesthesiologist asked the surgeon is this a partial or a full and i said That would be a Full with an extra shot as i do not want to wake up and the doctor laughed. Uh yeah i thought i would be knocked out before the operating room so was not happy and then when they wheeled me in i said Tennis anyone as that is how i ruptured my achilles. My surgeon was cool when i went for follow up he said how are you feeling and i said great and he said liar if you were great you would not be here lolllll

oh and after i went to pt forever and so for follow up with surgeon he says ok now walk on your toes and i said - HEY George and i did not practice this and i am not trying to be a ballerina here just want to walk lollll

LOL ! I'd say she found humor in having a pet.....

I was under the impression that Males were questioned about making good pets because of marking. I would much rather have a little humper than a marker. At least with the humper you don't have to worry about all that comes with a marker..that can be a nightmare if you have one marking all over the house...

BUT I have girls ....so in my opinion - Chanel can KEEP her boyfriend. I can't suck the fun out of her little dates .... IF she was out of control - I'd probably do something about it.

i haven't read most of the thread yet. but i may go back for a bit and see what else has been discussed. after the first page it seems like Quicksilver's questions were answered, so i wonder why this thread is soo darn long!?

i will say that i'm glad I have a girl and she's not into humping, and i'll mention the reason for the female choice over a boy was the dresses and nothing to do with marking humping or mating males...anyways...i love my little sweet heart and she's resting beside me right now

hope this thread says under control though, because though questions about males and their little packages are humorous, they are also something all pet parents with boys might go through and it's great to learn how to deal and what to do. Thanks for this thread Quicksilver. i learned a lot in case we get a boy someday.

Here is my #1 piece of advice for owning a boy - keep the chest hair very, very short. I can't tell you the number of times I've picked Thor up and my hand came away soaking wet. That is definitely an EEEEWWWWW.
