The love that dare not speak its name Ugh. Okay, I hate to start a topic on this, but I am really starting to wonder. Thor is not a sexual dog. I have never seen him hump anything, for which I am very grateful. Every month or so, I'd see he had a small erection after a nap, and very occasionally, he would "orally pleasure" himself, but that was it. Over the past few weeks, his self abuse has become a nightly practice. And his "thing" is not just popping its head up anymore, it's a big ol' erection. It's out ALL THE TIME. Is there any reason for this, or more importantly, any reason to think this might stop as suddenly as it started? I guess I'm afraid he's finally put it all together, and he's going to love on himself at every opportunity. I'd so rather he hump a toy than lick himself. Yargh. He turned three a few months ago, if that makes any difference. I guess he's been around other dogs more now than previously - maybe that triggered some testosterone production? How do I make this stop? It's yucky! |
Hmmm...(okay, first I have to get an immature little snicker out of the way bc I have 2 boys, and this post *is* a little funny, even though you probably didn't mean it to be...okay, I'm done). Well, since this sounds like kind of a sudden change in his manhood being "out", I wonder if everything is okay, physically...or, do you just mean, it's out at night, during his ritual? Our boys have nightly Lover Sessions with their Lover Dog, about 9pm every night - we accept their natural need/urge and let them have their dates w/ their Lover. So, I don't know if that gives some perspective, but they too are the nightly Stud Muffins. But I've never seen either of them lick themselves. Here's a thought...is Thor's manhood "stuck" out? Bc he may be licking if it's stuck. Marcel's gets stuck once in a while (bc his package is just insanely large for how small he is) and we've had to help get it back in there. Could it be getting stuck? |
Oh Ann your wording of "Lovers Session" made me giggle. I agree with your post...something could possibly be stuck. Another thought I have is he could possibly have a UTI if he's licking that spot alot throughout the day. The licking may help soothe it. Maybe you could try to grab a urine sample and bring it to the vet. If its just a habit thats starting to form..unfortunately i think you have to start distracting him when it happens. |
lol well dexter likes it in the morning lollll every morning he makes love to his soccer ball but not if i am the room he is shy - i come in to the nice after math and licking and this has been going on since he was a pup EVERY MORNING lolll I was freaked as thought he was neutered why is he doing this and my friend says and i fell out of my chair laughing men get neutered and they still want it lollllllllllllllllllllllll Dexter says welcome to the Dudes Club  |
Oooh, you know, I've been growing the hair out as a "pee string". Maybe it IS getting stuck. Because it's been much further out than previously, and it's out a lot more frequently. I assumed he was just being a perv, but maybe my innocent little guy is just trying to keep everything in place. I would be able to live with humping because it's natural and all, but licking - he kisses his mommy with that mouth! |
Also, his annual wellness checkup is coming up, so I can ask them to check for a UTI then, Hopefully that's an easy thing to do. |
Wow.......very interesting. 1st question---are all these lil boys neutered or intact?? Snick is 1.5yrs and he never gets an erection...and nothing ever comes out. I hope it's b/c he is neutered? I am very nieve when it comes to these things. Snick's "peanut:)" is so little...sometimes I can barely find it to wipe it before bed. Go figure! Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot...just want to know more or what may be in our future... -Snick & Viv |
Jackson was neutered at 6 1/2 months old but he is IN LOVE with this pink teddy bear that is upstairs. It's the only thing he EVER humps. Whenever he's finished humping it (I do let him -- he never does it in front of guests, he's never tried to hump a human or another dog, so I let him do his thang every once in a while, it's not an every day occurrence) and his little "thing" pops out (red rocket, as we call it) and he will lick it to, well, put it back in. So maybe Thor is just trying to get comfortable? It's probably like a little kid waking up with, uh, one of those for the first time and being like WTF is this?! haha! I have to say one time I was sooo freaked out. It was about a week after he was neutered and he started humping a teddy bear at my dad's house. OMG, it was sooo big, lmfao. It was ridiculous. Like, he was standing on the couch and the thing was almost touching the couch, ew! Thank God that has never happened again. It usually just pops out a little bit after humping, but never any other time. |
hmm interesting topic.. cause I too have male dogs that are neutered and not one time have either one had a habit of humping something on a regular basis. Toby was fixed at a 1.5 and Tucker was fixed at 4.5 months. Tucker will once in awhile jump up on the back of one of the cats or my poodle while they are playing, but he hasnt "humped" anything since he was 3/4 months old. |
rex is 6 months and hes been humping since 3 months!:D i dont mind at all because i know hes keeping busy and not peeing somewere in the houes! he like it in the morning and before bed time at night  |
The only thing Buster humps is Maggie, right before we leave the house to go walk AFTER she has her harness and leash on. No other time. Don't know what it is about the harness and leash but he jumps right up there when she has it on. I can't say that I have seen his "lipstick" come out, but then I'm not looking for it. |
Sounds like you might have your answer with having let his hair grow out there. As annoying as his new *habit* might be, to discourage him, please don't tell him that he will go blind!!:p |
