| I've thought about that too and I've read "no". Then why is it that they have found the H1N1 virus in pets?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I discussed this subject with our vet a few years back and her answer was "no, it isn't possible to transmit a cold virus or strep virus" to our dogs. IDK, about the H1N1 thing except that flu viruses do mutate and maybe that is how it was found in dogs, as a mutated version of the human variety?

| Most diseases are species specific however, there are several diseases that cross species. H1N1 is unique in that it is a 3-species hybrid with unusual adaptation capabilities, and has crossed the boundaries on several different species to date. Both bacterial and viral infections have outer protein shells which enable them to attach to receptor cells in their intended infectee. This match allows them to evolve and mutate to adapt to the new species. They are not alone however. Fungal infections such as ringworm, parasites such as round worm, and bacterial infections such as leptospirosis are also transferrable between dogs and humans. All in all though, you and your family have a better chance of picking something infectious up from your dog than the other way around. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I was really wondering the same thing. I have felt horrible the past 2 days. No sleeping from my throat hurting so bad, and now ZZ is being a bum and not doing much. Except sleep.. Lucky dog. She is a good nurse however, I had to pry her off the sofa with a prybar and make her go outside. Woo. Hope you are feeling better!

Thanks!! =) However, today is my worst day, the non stop coughing/sneezing. I hate it and nothing seems to calm it down. ZZ is asleep on my feet at the end of the sofa, been there since 5 a.m. Such a good nurse if I must say so myself. Only if she could run to the kitchen and get me a drink and my medicine when I needed it... lol!!
