| Does chicken breast make dogs grow/gain weight? I have been feeding Chloe small portions of chicken breast, but someone told me that the hormones in it aren't good for her and that she will gain weight? I need opinions on this, because I don't see anything wrong with chicken breast.. but I'm not sure. She is 4 months old.

| Hormones are not used in chickens, it's illegal...but they are pumped full of antibiotics. If you're concerned, you can purchase 'humanely raised' chicken from places like whole foods.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Little bits of chicken won't make your kiddo gain weight on its own. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Like Jenny said, you could also buy cruelty free.

| Thank you ladies. I'm glad chicken is okay, as silly of a question as this was lol.

| It was actually a good question! Chicken breast has less fat than dark meat, so it's not necessarily a food that will cause weight gain. Dogs & cats process fresh protein much easier & uses the fat for energy, they basically burn it off. So a higher fat protein will not cause weight gain either, esp in a young pup. Vets also recommend plain boiled chicken breast & white rice (but I've read that pumpkin or sweet potato is a better alternative for rice) for bland diet during upset tummies or after surgery. Some people use it to transition between foods to reduce any upset tummies too.
