It was actually a good question! Chicken breast has less fat than dark meat, so it's not necessarily a food that will cause weight gain. Dogs & cats process fresh protein much easier & uses the fat for energy, they basically burn it off. So a higher fat protein will not cause weight gain either, esp in a young pup.

Vets also recommend plain boiled chicken breast & white rice (but I've read that pumpkin or sweet potato is a better alternative for rice) for bland diet during upset tummies or after surgery. Some people use it to transition between foods to reduce any upset tummies too.
