So Long Wellness...Hello Blue Buffalo so.....after dealing with explosive and runny bms (the kind that had me getting up every other hour all night long to take lulu out!) it became clear that something in the food was not agreeing with her. i got some blue buff puppy and figured it would take a few days for her to firm up, assuming of course, this food didn't also affect her negatively. here's the amazing thing! the very first time i replaced wellness with the blue, her poo firmed right up. i even got to sleep through the entire night last night!! oh...and another thing.....she seems actually spunkier or happier somehow! i know that wellness is a great food, but for lulu, it just didn't work out. needless to say, i am THRILLED with the blue buffalo!!:D wish i knew if she was allergic to something in the wellness or if it was just too rich for her system at the moment.....hmmm..... |
Hmmm...it might help to compare the 2 ingredient lists bc that is a fast reaction. Is the protein source completely different? If yes, you may have it right there. I'm just happy you have found a solution bc ongoing diarrhea is so awful..and scary. Been there! Marcel had giardia as a pup, so I know... |
Lady had the same problem with Wellness Whitefish and Sweet Potato. It wasn't allergies because that is the basis of her homecooked recipe now. I've heard other people complain about loose stools on Wellness. |
If you go on their website they will mail you a coupon for Blue Buffalo. |
ann...i'm going to compare the two more closely and see if anything jumps out at me because yes, the change was immediate! ladymom...i'd actually seen where you mentioned trouble with one of the wellness foods and a little more digging unearthed a lot of folks who said the same....it's very confusing! i guess sometimes it has more to do with the dog than it does the food?! wahawaha....thanks for the coupon tip! i have one on the way. :) |
I swear by the blue buffalo food... I think it is an excellent choice! Congrats on your little one doing better :) |
kayden has been on wellness since she was a puppy. she's been on the 'simple solutions' for about a month now. but she...just this week...started having diarrhea. only at her normal poo times. nothing extra. but she did throw up a couple times wednesday. she doesn't act like anything is wrong...not acting sick or anything. and she doesn't feel like she has fever or anything. no other symptoms. i'm thinking of going to the store today and getting samples of other foods. any ideas or suggestions? |
Does Blue Buffalo have a puppy food? I would love to switch Bear from Royal Canine to something better. So far we tried Merrick Puppy Plate, Nature Variety Chicken/Brown Rice medley, and Nature Variety Raw Chicken formula. He didn't even try the first two, and ate about hald of one piece of row chicken. ( He loves cooked chicken I make for us) I know Royal Canine is not the best food I can give to my baby, but that is all he wants to eat. |

I've had Harley on Blue small breed formula for close to 3 weeks now and we both love it. She doesn't eat as much, about 1/2 cup all day long, because of the higher protein content, but her stool's have hardened up and she's got TONS more energy. It has also improved the shine of her coat. I will definitely be sticking to the Blue Buffalo.:D |
sorry....i didn't mean to abandon this but somehow missed the latest comments. yes, as someone else stated, blue does have a puppy formula. lulu has been on blue for a few weeks now and all is still going GREAT!! :) |
I switched from TOTW to Blue two weeks ago.My two love it. And I am in agreement they have a whole lot more energy.(haven't decided if that is good or bad)LOL just kidding they seem to be doing great on it. |
I feed my 2 Wellness small breed Super 5 mix . No problems with runny stools at all, in fact Suzi looks much healthier now. I know welness has differnet types of dog foods , and a couple of them are lower quality on the super prem. list. I am glad Blue Buffalo is working for your dogs. |

But.... this is the first super prem food she's been on, so maybe there is something out there even BETTER for her? But she seems to love it. and the price is good too. :) Oh, btw, the reason I read this thread was bc the title reminded me of a Chappelle show skit: "So long fried rice, hello fried chicken!":D |
I had my Suzi on By Nature which was rated a 4 , so is the Blue Buffalo. The Welness , small breed , is a rating of 5. it is actually higher protein content . This is only the research that I have done on the difference of the 2. But , Wellness does have 2 lower quality brands of dog foods out there that are rated a 2. SO it depends on what was bought. not all is the same. |
Both my puppies are on wellness puppy mix and I would like to change. They both seem to have more gas issues on this food. Borping and farting and all sorts of unpleasent things coming out of their little bodies! I have read that sometimes yorkies can get intestinal problems because there are so many ingredients in the food and there stomachs can be fragile. The dogfoodanaylisis.com website is what made me switch to Wellness in the first place, but i noticed all their higher rated dog foods are very high in protein, and I read that a food with too much protein is not good for small dogs who aren't super active. All the info is so confusing, I am gonig to try Blue Buffalo if everyone is getting great results. Where can you buy it? |
My 3lb and 6lb yorkie puppies have had intestinal problems on Wellness as well. Lots of burping and farting  and loose stools. I read somewhere that smaller dogs and/or dogs who are nto crazy active shouldn't have foods that are too high in protein. Its hard because the website dogfoodanalysis.com rates food very high that have very high protein content so its confusing. I want to try Blue Buffalo, where can you buy it? |

You are too sunny...I saw that show.:D |
I switched from Blue Buffalo to Wellness puppy. My two are very picky, and I have tried a few different foods, and neither one of them gobble any foods up. Hand feed a couple of times a day. I wish I could find a food that they just LOVE!!!!!!!! |
Sasha was eating Blue Buffalo Wilderness for a little over 2 years and did wonderful on it. I absolutely love the company and everything about it. She has wonderful results eating the food. The only reason I changed was because I found a store that carries Acana locally and I really like Champion Pet Foods company as well. They're based in Canada and have never had recalls. Plus, Sasha did absolutely wonderful on Acana when I had her on it a few years ago. I still use Blue Buffalo's biscuits as Sasha loves all the different flavors. If for some reason the Acana doesn't work out or agree with Sasha this time, I will definitely put her back on Blue Buffalo Wilderness. |
Cesar has been eating Buffalo Blue puppy food since he was 9 months and he still loves it. And he also stopped with the runny BM's and going 5+ times per day to just a couple times per day. It's a great food. |

I feed Daisy Blue Buffalo. I think it's a really good food. I think Wellness is a good food too and I tried it on Daisy. She had the OPPOSITE reaction.........constipation. I stopped it immediately. It left her stools really hard and dry. The only time that has ever happened. |
I was feeding mine Blue Buff but now that they turned 7 yrs old I wanted to switch to Senior food and all they have is chicken in the senior food. Daisy has a bad reaction to chicken (itching) so now I am looking for a senior food that is not a chicken formula. |
Which Blue Buffalo are you all feeding??? They have 3-4 choices for Small Breed. Thanks! :) |
Hello...I'm fairly new here and to the Yorkie world. My Toby is soooo picky. I can't get him to eat Blue much. When he sees he is not getting any other food then he'll eat a little bit of blue but sometimes I have to hand feed him. I guess the problem is there are a variety of foods in our home...cat food, other dog's food--so he prefers the not so nutritional stuff!!! I have also bought him Ultramix which he also eats but just barely. He does however like the dried fruits and carrots that are in Ultramix! |
Yay! I'm a newbie and happened to start with Blue Buffalo. Sounds like it's a good one. I was worried that my little girl would have a hard time transitioning, but she LOVED it. In fact, I had to take it away from her because she was eating too much of it :) |
