We never used a cone with Roxy. We tried to limit running/jumping for about 2 weeks. |
Mia is the exception I found this thread through google! I know its old...but just want to say my Miss Mia IS the exception, she won't leave it alone, I have to keep her collar (Thanks Mom To Hot Rod) which she don't mind at all (plastic ones make her thrash her body like a seizure)I have a onesie on her with meticulously cut holes (not) for her tail (shes a Biewer or Parti or whichever one is white black and gold with a tail). She keeps trying to rub her belly on the floor, my leg, or anything else she can. Took the collar off for a damp cloth bath and she went at it immediately, day 4 still loopy, still itchy, still shaky, still a little love bug! |
Neuter time My baby is getting neutered next week and I am freaking out. it just makes me really nervous for him to go under cause he is so small. I have already cancelled his apt once before because I get nervous, but I know it is good for their health to get it done. can anyone tell me if they have a yorkie that's 2-3 pounds like my Oliver and tell me how the surgery went and recovery please? maybe it will ease my mind a little. |
I have had more than one. My little guy Cujo was under 3 lbs when neutered and my little girl Addie was 2lb 5 oz and did great! The ver had to stitch her differently due to her tiny size but no problems! |
I had Sunni spayed a few weeks ago, and I was also told to leave the plastic cone on for 14 days. I got one of the soft collars because I hadn't heard about the onsie idea. She kept deflating it, lol..but it was still stiff enough that she couldn't reach the stitches and she did try! She was literally back to herself overnight, and I hated keeping that thing on her…but I did anyway. I would take it off when she was in my lap and comb her hair which relaxes her now. But the recovery was pretty fast. The hardest part was trying to keep her from excessive playing and jumping!! Good luck! |
Sable Hey I'm new to this, how do I post pictures of my baby? It says my iPhone pictures are too large? Is there a way to reduce the size? Sable is having her surgery tomorrow, I have always had dogs but one never this small she weighs 4 1/2 lb fully grown so I'm a concerned momma regarding the surgery and after care! :aimeeyork Thanks! Sable got spayed Monday and she had no e collar, my vet said females usually leave it alone and she has?! Ruth |
I'd give it a week... just make sure your fur baby isn't in that general area where stitches are. Good luck! |

I had my Chloe spayed last May at a clinic also. I know how akward the collar is, but unless you can watch them all the time it is best to leave it on (I was told 7 to 10 days) and thier activity should be restricted (no jumping and running around). I just let Chloe do her business on pee pads inside for 14 days after, to be on the safe side, I did not want her to get dirty around that area, and you are not suppose to let them get wet and no baths for at least 3 weeks. I know it was impossible for Chloe to eat with her collar on so I took it off so she could eat and drink. If I was sitting with her I would also take it off. Do not let them lick or bit the incision. You also must check the incision for redness or swelling twice daily and it is normal for there to be a small bump at the top of the incision, this is part of the stitches. After the ten days I took off the collar and had no problems with her licking or bitting incision, I still did not let her get back to her full routine of walks, jumping, alot of running for a couple more weeks, even though she would have, I just always air on the side of caution. I hope this helps, it was all that I remember. |
Lola was supposed to be spayed last week but she went into heat so we had to move it to next month I'm nervous but it's the right thing to do for her |
