YT Addict | Bad breath - not long after deep cleaning When Lolli was spayed they did a deep cleaning on her teeth. None of the teeth were loose or extracted. I have been brushing her teeth daily with Pet Dental vanilla toothpaste and a 3-headed doggie tooth brush. She still has bad breath! I don't ever have any bleeding and none of her teeth seem loose, and there doesn't seem to be any signs of infection either i.e. gum swelling or bleeding or pus. Is this still a cause for concern that I should take her to the vet for, or is it possible that she just HAS bad breath from food or whatever? It's not that bad after I brush but it's not long before it's back. Also, BESIDES bully sticks and other things like that, do any of you use any type of chews/treats that are for teeth and breath specifically? I have been using Dingo, I know it contains rawhide but she absolutely loves them and they have never made her sick or any of my sisters dogs sick. But they don't seem to DO anything for the breath. The Dingo chews are not made of 100% rawhide, they are made with real chicken (not by-product) so I didn't see them as horrible. I've heard about the greenie chews (and other brands that have similar gummy chews) are bad and I can see how. So is there any actual dental-related things I can give her that work?

| I find the dog toothpaste that is mint works better to control bad breath then the flavored kind. Also, try some freshener to spray after brushing. Koi's food gives him horrible bad breath and his teeth are squeaky clean. There is also a thing...I can't remember the name but we sell it at PetSmart. It's a foam bone-like thing that you can fill with a paste. They chew on it and it cleans their teeth/freshens breath at the same time. The reason I don't recommend Dingos is because they still get soggy and can impact intestines if swallowed. My boss lost her Saint Bernard to that Greenies aren't gummy, they tend to crumble more than anything else. I've had no problems with them.

YT Addict | Well the dingo treats are not like rawhide you give as a chew, the Dingos are a treat that they eat and swallow. It's made with real chicken and stuff like that. The greenies I have heard a lot worse stories, and from this forum. Someone said in a thread about greenies that they had to go down into their dogs throat and pull out the greenie the dog was choking on, which had turned into a giant gummy mess. As far as toothpaste the only 2 I have seen in Petsmart, Pet Supermarket and Walmart/Target is Pet Dental and Triple Pet. One is Vanilla flavor the other is like beef or poultry I forget. None of them are mine, because I was looking for mint specifically. So I settled for the Vanilla. I'll have to look for a mint kind then online I guess. What brand is good? I read about CET being good. So also besides Dingo and Greenies let's talk about some other kind of treats that are supposed to be good for teeth and breath? There has to be more than just those 2, that actually work.

| We sell mint toothpaste at our PetSmart...hmm, maybe its only certain ones. As for Greenies, that's awful! I don't give my dogs anything but Nylabones and Bully Sticks. I don't trust anything lol As far as other chews, I am not sure. Those are usually the top 2 recommended. I would say the mint flavored Nylabone, but thats only if your pup won't mind chewing on it.
