| New here and have a question about holistic medicine Hi I was refered here by another Yorkie mom and was wondering if anyone has ever gone to a holistic vet or done canine accupuncture. I you have, please let me know if it worked for you. I tried searching for any info on this and couldn't find it here. If I posted this on the wrong board, please feel free to move it to the right area! Thanks! |

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | I don't really know anything about holistic medicine. Sorry. But, I thought I'd bump the thread in case, with all the crazy threads, your post has been missed. Welcome to YT!

| Thanks for the welcome and the bump! I took my baby to a specialist and he recommended operating on 3 legs for a total of over $9,000. Someone else suggested trying a holistic vet for accupuncture. I am so torn. I am hoping someone here has tried alternative medicine. |

| Thanks for the welcome and the bump. I took my baby to a specialist and he recommended surgery for three legs to fuse the bones where the ligaments have been totally stretched. I was hoping someone here has tried alternative medicine as a few peoplke hav esuggested I take my baby to see if that could help. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | If I were looking at a possible $9000 vet bill, I'd go a holistic vet/accupuncture as fast as I could get there. It's not a guarantee of anything, but it sure would be worth a reasonable try. But a $9000 vet bill doesn't guarantee anything either. Hopefully your yorkie isn't in any pain.

I haven't done dog acupuncture but my mother had it done personally for years and had a decent reduction in pain. If you're just doing it for pain management - I think its a great idea! Certainly worth a chance... but do keep in mind depending on what we're exactly talking about here (since you don't mention in detail) its not going to fix your issues. Its just going to "mask" or "treat" one of the issues it causes. Alternative medicine can be great, but it has its limitations. Ligaments put you in a tough situation, because if they've been stretched severely... there isn't anything that's going to un-stretch them beyond going in an physically shortening them. Depending on the situation though, alternative medicine may help you manage the symptoms and delay surgical action. Is there another specialist you can see for a second option? | |

| Thanks for your replies. I am waiting to hear from my vet to see who else he will refer Tinkerbell to. I know eventually something will have to be done surgically, but I am looking at something just to make her more comfortable without taking Rimadyle everyday. At this point she is taking 1/4 of a pill about every other day. It just kills me to see my baby in pain! |
