| What's the best food for my new pup??!! Hello all, I'm bringing my new baby and first dog home next month and I want to make sure she has the best food possible, especially since I read that their teeth are easily damaged. Please give me some of your reccomendations as to what the best food is for Yorkie puppies!

| Like I'm sure many others will say on here, there isn't really a "best" dog food because not all dog foods work for everyone. It's kind of a trial and error situation that you have to go through. Most people recommend that you keep your puppy on whatever the breeder has them on for a few months until they get settled into your home. The foods that I really like and that I use for Sasha are: Innova EVO Taste of the Wild Orijen Acana I'm sure many more people will reply on this thread to help you out with a good puppy food. When I first got Sasha, I didn't have much knowledge on the whole dog food subject so the puppy formulas I used I wouldn't recommend now. Good luck! |

| feed a mix of brands I feed my dogs a mix of brands based on my breeders recommendation. I believe she said that the mix would make their stomach's less irritable and more tolerant to changes in their food. It could also minimize the risk if one of the products has a recall. The brands I personally like to use are: Wellness, Blu, Royal Canine and Eukaneuba. I also buy breed specific in these brands when available or small breed.

| Hi!! Welcome to YT! I think it's great that you're inquiring about things for your puppy right off the bat!! A very helpful website is Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble and I would not choose a food less than 4 stars. Some brands have puppy food which generally has more fat that adult kibble. Some brands also make "All Life Stages" foods which can be fed at any age. Some brands I 100% trust include: --Innova (makes puppy formula) --Orijen (makes puppy formula) --Acana (makes MANY formulas-this is the kibble my Snickers eats now and LOVES-he eats "Grasslands" which is an All Life Stages food) --Fromm (All Life Stages foods) --Wellness (has both puppy formula & All Life Stages foods) --Evo (All life stages food) I'm super obsessed with Snickers' diet and health and many kibbles out there have all kinds of if, ands, or buts that go along with them. It's a hard process choosing a food that works for your pup. Best of luck to you!!! Smiles- Snick & Viv

| I have read and been told that wet food is not good for their teeth... is this true?

| I give my dogs chew bones and they also get their teeth brushed. Barney is 9 years old and has never had to have a cleaning. I scale his teeth once every 6 mos or so if I see anything building up - which is so rare. Teddy is only a year old but he too has no build up on his teeth. Both of the boys eat only home cooked food (which is a soft mixture) and Merrick canned food. If you looked into Barney's mouth, his teeth are sparkly white and strong. Daisy is a different story - she does not chew anything at all because she is afraid of Barney. Her teeth have been bad since she was a baby - bad puppymill breeding. But, the ones she has are sparkly white and clean. So if you ask me, wet food is fine if you give other things to chew to exercise the jaw and if you take care of the teeth. I got my puppies used to the toothbrush immediately and they enjoy brushing. Also Merrick does make kibble - we keep Grammy's Pot Pie kibble on hand for training or for travel and stuff. I love the way they always smell like pot pies too - with both the canned and the dry!
